Should the WTA play best of 5?

Disagreed. No matter how much better she is, if she has no energy, she will not win the close matches.

A quick glance at her records indicates that she shows no signs of letting up in the third set. There's nothing to indicate that she would be incapable of another set or two.

Well yeah, it's all about PC, but it's weird it's ONLY done in tennis. I mean, common sense prevails in other sports.
And the fact that it's the only sport that holds joint events - there's no NBA/WNBA doubleheader.

Absolute fantasy and nonsense.
The first part was the truth; then I went with a sarcasm blast.

So why is it then? I know people who work with the USTA - all the people they've asked admitted to being Democrats. You know, the party with the Community-Organizer-In-Chief who is all for Income Redistribution.

Should the WTA play 5 set matches? In slams, absolutely, just like the men. The slams should also be separate from the ATP slams. They should not go on at the same time. The only way the Women would be able to get the same pay then is if the viewership and sponsors was equal to the men. I guarantee that it would not be and thus the women would be paid less. It's really all relative to how much money it makes.

I for one would watch WTA events even with them being separate. I enjoy the eye candy and find the level of tennis to frequently be quite nice.

I don't enjoy the "brand" of women's tennis, because it is not as entertaining to me, as I feel the quality is far inferior.........as for the eye candy?..........whenever I do watch some of it, I don't see any "eye candy"........certainly not much!......what are you watching?.........do you consider Venus and Serena "hot" or something?.......I'd rather look at my two cat's asses than watch Serena drag her fat butt across the court!

Dude, you clearly feel very strongly about this issue, why not start a campaign to have the two tours totally separated, and bring in fair pay as opposed to equal pay?

Surprisingly......I don't have any issue with their equal pay, my point is........they deserve what the market allows them to get, on their own, just as the men........and as far as playing five sets, until they can maintain a quality match at three.....then why bother?

Just separate the two tours at grand slams and let what happens happens.........I think with better quality televised mens action, ratings will go up over time........and as for the women, I think their coverage will shrink down to just the last few rounds at best........the market and demand will dictate on it's own if the ladies deserve the same pay

But still give them equal pay?

Who cares what they get paid. They can have equal pay. Just don't give them equal time. I'm willing to contribute $5 every GS towards this noble effort to keep grunting, choking and fat a**es off my TV screen (Just don't apply this to Nalbo - I love him no matter what :)).

Hahaha, I hate watching GS's for that reason, all the friggin women's tennis. Don't get it on Sky Sports though, they only televise men's. Thank god.

If they ever did split the two tours at grand slams......I bet OXYGEN or something would pick up the women's coverage

How about making womens pay ratio compared to men EQUAL to the viewer ratio.

That should end womens tennis.

See I don't want an END to women's tennis, just not an unholy mix of the men's game with the women's. I think the best time to televise the current women's game is after midnight on the channels that otherwise carry infomercials. I promise that if I can't sleep at night, I'll watch Serena and Maria grunt. :gulp:

I say reduce it to just the swimsuit competition and skip the talent portion.

LOL...you sure you want to see Serena in a swimsuit?. Here is what you would get to see -

That's definitely the body of a person who spends vasts amount of time doing the intense cardio training required for a tennis player.

Ya, but if it was just a swimsuit competition, Serena wouldn't make it past the first round (well, she wouldn't even get into the qualies).

They should play strip tennis. Every time they lose a point they have to remove an item of clothing.

Whoever said Serena would win the best of 5 already forgot the SF in Oz in Jan. If they hadn't stopped the match after the 1st set and taken 20 minutes to close the roof, she was done. Indoors, Serena probably would outlast the rest of this motley crew. But outdoors in warm weather, she'd run out of gas.
