Should Venus retire?

Kim Clijsters announced she would retire by the end of 2007 to avoid being permanently injured later in life. Do you think Venus Williams should retire now?

Yes. Both of the Williams should leave the game. And I don't want them to leave because they're black, so don't even start with that crap.

One bad loss, which she couldn't hit her 2 handed backhand because she reinjured her left wrist? I saw a clip. Venus was hitting backhand slices. We all know that her signature shot is her 2 handed backhand...Wow, you guys are just nuts....She should've retired from the Match, but the crowd boo'd her when she got injury time out. And being the champion she is, she didn't quit. She stayed in there...it was actually kind of sad to see. Venus was obviously in pain...she teared up a bit at 3-4... took the time out...never the same since. It's hard to see Venus Williams in tears, especially someone who usually keeps her emotions inside.

I wouldn't be surprised Sharapova will injure herself soon. She's too tall and not strong enough (about 130 pounds). I guess she'll be full of injuries by the age of about 23.

Venus should do whatever she damn well pleases, not what some lifeless morons think she should.
Yep, she is set for life. If she wants to design clothes, act, or whatever...She has enough money and if she is smart with it - she doesn't need to train, practice, travel. While all us would love the chance to be on the tour, it is her decision - she has other interests. As much as I can't stand her parents, they raised some great intelligent girls in a difficult situation.

Obviously nobody on this board expects that Venus will decide what she will do with her career based on the consensus of this board. The purpose of this board is to discuss opinions, do you have a problem with that?

When she beats Ivanovic in 2 sets, I see no reason to retire.

However, he might want to consider going 1HBH, the left wrist might be too much.

Why not? Risk of permanent injury is reason enough. Let those eastern European women's players have their run. They want money, right? Let them have it. If they want money while risking injuries, let them. Let them have it all I say!

Oh my god - what is your problem? Should Venus retire? Errr no.
Are you the guy on Venus and Serenas boards called Venusfan999 or whatever?

Coz you seriously need to get a grip of what your saying. Why should she retire - if Venus or Serena wanted to retire they would. They have achieved an awful lot in the game - more than what a lot ever will and i believe have the potential to achieve more. Like someone said, beating Ivanovic in 2 sets on a comeback match after being out since Wimbledon is impressive.

Both sisters have done enough and earned enough to go away - but the fact they want more and the fact they are still playing shows that they still want something out of the game of tennis. No one can say what that is - we can only guess. My guess is they believe they still have more to give and i belive they do - particualrly Serena.

Just my opinion - i dont want to start a big argument or whatever but yes i am a fan of the Williams sisters and think they can do so much more than what they have already. People will disagree with that but hey thats their opinion which their entitled to and this is mine.

And as for who started this post - are you a fan or not coz your confusing me and annoying me at the same time. When you decide get back to us and please let us know.

Venus suck. she;s too hurt. she needs to leave tenis

Actually she doesn't "suck". If you are an American, I'm shameful for you, 'cause I'm not an Americian and I'm still greatly admired by Venus' fighting spirit. A tennis player without spirit is not a good tennis player. It's not all about winning, winning, winning. Besides, Venus has already achievement more than many can ever dream. To us Chinese, fighting spirit is just as important as results, if not more.

Do you have a problem with me expressing my opinion on the subject?

As long as she can stay healthy there is no reason why she should retire. She is certainly one of the most talented women on tour. In my opinion her game has not evolved the way it should have, too many unforced errors and sloppy play. Whether she needs a new coach or someone to help her with the tactical part of the game might be the answer.
