Should you reduce tension when planning to use string savers?

I'm going to try natural gut and figure on using quite a few string savers to help it last. I understand that string savers affect the feel of the string bed, and it seems logical that at least part of the reason is that they increase tension by introducing more deflection of the strings.

I've decided I prefer lower tensions--I know a lot of people say string gut tight or it will be uncontrollable, so I won't get carried away. I'll probably try my new string-job without savers, maybe I'll like it that way and I'm not a frequent string-breaker. But, if I think it's likely I'll wind up using 2 or 3 dozen string savers (Babolats, Pacific Classic 16 gut) do I need to drop the tension setting to get what I really want? 2 pounds? 5 pounds? Thanks.
