Shoulder Resurfacing (partial replacement)

Got a second opinion on my shoulder today and they recommended the shoulder resurfacing procedure. Anyone else get this done? First opinion recommended a stand alone biceps tenodesis which would alleviate stress on my torn labrum cartilage (SLAP tear). Second opinion says resurfacing would be best because it would address the arthritis in the shoulder which could be a primary culprit causing a lot of my pain and stiffness issues vs. only addressing the defect in the labrum (SLAP tear) with biceps tenodesis. Resurfacing reshapes the humeral head and a metal implant cap is screwed into the humerous and a plastic capsule is placed on the glenoid to form a new joint. It is basically a shoulder replacement but without cutting off the humeral head and scapula. The have to detach the biceps and front rotator cuff to place the implant, so you get a bicep tenodesis with resurfacing as well.

Anyway, this is an interesting procedure offered to active younger patients with mild/moderate arthritis who are not candidates for total shoulder replacement. Supposedly allows you to return to full activity without restrictions. I haven't been able to find much on tennis players having this procedure. If you could help, it would be appreciated!

Good luck. I'm gearing up for total replacement for severe arthritis. My surgeon says tennis postOp is fine just no power lifting (which I never have done).

Wishing you all the best! The dream of getting back on the court will help keep you motivated and focused during the difficult rehab!
