Oh, really? That's a bummer about the shipping costs. Around here, there's just no place to try on dresses, so all you can do is order on-line.

I just got my second box of dresses from TW today. I'll go try them on and see if any look right. Wish me luck!

Then all the rejects go back in the mail tomorrow.

theres a new shop in town that carries stuff you can try on. they have a dressing room too. if you want email me i dont want to post on tw board here :)

As an aside on dresses, what on earth were Venus and Rezai wearing for the Madrid final?!?

Venus looked like a moulin rouge performer half dressed and Rezai looked like a cross between a breakdancer and a Hareem inhabitant. It was comedy for sure!

Cindy, we really need to see you wearing these outfits to really be able to comment and judge. You may email the pics to me privately if you prefer.

Is it the shop on Rockville Pike that starts with a "T"?

If so, I've been there. They only had three dresses in my size, and two of those might have been mislabeled because one was ridiculously tight and the other ridiculously large.

I'm a pretty loyal customer of TW. They've always been quite good to me.

Honestly, I could not even watch the two of them in those Halloween outfits. Geez, is it really so hard to wear something that isn't hideous?

Venus' dress looked very heavy. I noticed this in some of the dresses. All the weight of all the frills and doodads can be felt at the bottom of the cress. I would imagine that a player would resent that extra weight after 3 hours of serious tennis.

The other thing I have decided is that Serena cannot possibly be wearing off-the-rack Nike dresses; her dresses must be custom made. The Nikes I have tried are very tight in the torso in size medium. I would imagine even an XL would come nowhere close to fitting Serena.

Dementieva, OTOH, might be wearing off the rack Yonnex. I say that because I've seen pics of her in the two Yonnex dresses I bought. Now, she is a big woman (did anyone see the Tennis Channel instructional episode where she is standing next to her coach and she dwarfs him?). The dresses are crazy-short on her but seem a good length on me.

I am glad this thread came up because I was thinking the other day about whether people actually wear dresses and play socially. I have hardly seen any ladies wearing dresses in matches or training and it got me thinking who buys them?

Personally I would love to see more ladies wearing dresses but the impression I tend to get is most ladies dont buy dresses because the majority of people dont wear them and so they would look out of place if there wearing a dress and everyone else has shorts and a tshirt on.

I couldn't agree more. It used to only be Venus and Serena that wore weird stuff and that Mattek girl but now it's spreading and getting worse! Some of Sharapova's stuff is strange also. My wife thought she was wearing a weird evening dress at the US Open once. That said I think this last effort takes the prize so far, or possibly a tie with the Mattek "gold and leopardskin" affair.

Um. Somehow I don't think I could pull that off.

Around here most of the USTA league/tournament ladies wear tennis specific clothes, and lots of them wear dresses. Most of the park and recreational, or social ones don't.

Most of the younger girls, junior girls, college players, and even out of college teaching pros just wear shorts and a t-shirt. Although some dress in tennis specific clothes, I would say less than 35%.

I don't have any dresses :( I like skirts though, especially funky ones with ruffles and other fun styling details. And Nike makes these amazing shorts that have built in compression shorts. Look into it.

You know, Becksx1, we need to band together and change this.

Most women in USTA play wear some form of tennis attire. You won't see the women showing up in old T-shirts, for the most part. Usually, it's some combo of drifit shirt and a skort.

There are women who wear dresses, and they are often crazy-thin. No one around here shows up in something that looks like a scaled down ball gown.

I think the main issue with wearing something especially eye-catching is that it can be rather, um, inspiring for your opponent. I won't be wearing a dress for singles tonight because I would not want my opponent getting all fired up to beat the chick wearing Dementieva's dresses. :)

Cindy -- thinking it might be fun to have the whole team wear dresses for one match :)

OK, I can now report on how these dresses feel during a match. Plus, I have tried several new ones.

Bottom line: Dresses rock! They just sort of hang where they should hang, with no twisting or riding up or anything. They are very cool in hot weather also. I am officially a fan.

I have tried a few others they sell at TW -- it's just impossible to know whether something will work until you try it.

This orange one just didn't work at all. It is really better suited to someone tall and angular (no curves). Too bad, because the color is awesome.

NWNAOD-PK-1.jpg

This one wasn't even close. The description warns that it runs large and long so you should order one size smaller. Even ordering a small didn't help. Way too much fabric in the bust, so long it was only an inch over my knees. The fabric was also not very athletic -- more like something you'd see on a bridesmaid dress.

TWPEPED-1.jpg

This one was a winner. The color is kind of interesting and will be cool in hot weather. It is by Tail, and I think their dresses run big so I ordered a small. The straps are adjustable and it fits very differently depending on strap length. The skirt is flirty and fun. I worry that it might make me look little bit boxy, but maybe the problem is that I'm a little bit boxy? Whatever, I like it and I'm keeping it!

So disappointed. I just scrolled through 4 pages of this hoping to see some modeling not cut and pasting. I'll have to see if my fiance will let take some pics of her and post them. She plays in the Serena French Open dress, Sharapova Grey/Purple one and I think the Serena Orange dress. I forget what slam the last one is for.

Maybe some pics coming soon, don't drool too much boys.

I'm jealous girls get to wear much more than the typical shorts and shirt that guys wear. Girls got tanks, polos, dresses, shorts, skirts, capris...

And Preston, the Sharapova dress is grey and burgundy. And the Serena Orange dress is Serena's australian open 2010 dress in Sunburst. :)

Oh, Preston. No way would I post pics of myself in these garments. Sales of the dresses would plummet. It might shake the U.S. economy to its very core.

It would make for a very funny thread, though. My daughters sure got a kick out these get-ups!

I did fix it.

I took it to my dry cleaner and they said they wouldn't alter it. The fabric was too stretchy. That was the lamest thing I have ever heard, but whatever.

Then I took it to an actual tailor. They also said they wouldn't alter it because it was too stretchy! But the lady said I could easily tack it myself with a needle and thread.

So that's what I did. I don't think my amateur tailoring is all that noticeable, so I'm happy. I wore the pink dress to a day match, got a lot of compliments, and won. Then I wore it to a night match and got spanked.

Now I am afraid to wear it for fear it could be cursed.

Topaz, I might be in the lineup for the last match after all. Two different captains need me to avoid a default. But if the one captain I'm supposed to play for only has seven, then I think she should release me to play the match with you. Stay tuned . . .

Hmm...how to copy the picture of the dresses from the TW website?

The Barricades comment is hilarious! I feel like I'm clomping around in cinder blocks when I wear them. Very hot.

I'm in the middle of my tennis/fitness comeback and am carrying an extra 10 lbs in my mid-section. My arms and legs look good, but it will be a few more months before I have a nice tight hour glass. I'm definitely a curvy lady and need more than spaghetti straps and a shelf bra to support the girls...

As Cindy pointed out, most of the Nike and Adidas dresses are super tight through the torso - very unattractive if you don't love your middle and downright uncomfortable when you are sweating bullets.

I have an a-line dress by K-Swiss that is super comfy and very flattering on my curvy shape. My only complaint is that the dress is about an inch too long. I feel like I'm fumbling with the hem when I try to tuck a ball into my shorties. Hope to have better luck finding a tailor than Cindy did.

The other dress I have that I love is Tail's Tokyo Lily Dress. The best part is there is no shelf bra...hallelujah! Again, more of an A-line dress that skims the body rather than adhering to the body.

The important thing is to wear the cut that is most flattering to your shape. And as someone else pointed out, wear the size that flatters your shape. No one wants to look like 10lbs of potatoes in a 5 lbs sack.

I may not have the body of a 20 year old, but I look pretty damn good in these 2 dresses and my cinder block Barricades. :)

At least you get to wear human lady sized ones.

I usually wear Nike, but when I wear Barricades, I need size 14 men's.

And consequently, when I wear them I can't drive my car because one foot hits too many pedals.

So I have to drive in my socks, and then put them on when I get to where I am playing.

But still, there is something about a girl in Barricades, especially the white ones with red stripes. I dunno what it is.

You hover the mouse over the picture you want and right-click. Select Properties. Then copy the info you see displayed under Location.

Then go to where you want to put the pic and paste the "location" info. You'll need to add
after for the image to show.

Come on. Show us your dress!

Thanks for the help, Cindy.

The Tail dress - made for curvy ladies! I'm between a medium and a large and opted for the large to have a looser fit in the torso. I have to take in the side seam a bit near the armpit area.

This is from K Swiss...plain Jane to some, but classic to others. Again, flattering on a curvy figure. They also have it in white, but black made feel kind of bad-***...

Oooh, I like the red Tail. I prefer black to navy -- gotta match the black shoes -- so I decided not to get that one.

I'm in the market for a black dress. Still haven't found exactly the right look. Maybe the manufacturers will come out with something for me around US Open time . . .

I'm going to be on a mixed doubles team this summer. I think I will wear dresses every match, just for fun.

The only problem with black is that it can feel pretty darn oppressive in a hot climate. Something to consider...And for some reason they try to make black tennis dresses look like evening wear - goofy.

"That's so sexy!"

Years ago, my then GF -- strictly an indoors girl -- came to watch a mixed doubles team practice. She'd never seen tennis up close and the first time she saw one of the women lift up her skirt and tuck a ball underneath, she exclaimed, "OMG, that's so sexy!"

I looked at her, thought about it, and said, "Yeah, it is, isn't it?"

I still chuckle when I think about that.. :)

Yea, that sucks that they don't make black Barricades for women. I guess your only option would be to Miadidas them, and if you are like me then it would be a mighty frosty day before you coughed up $150 for a pair of tennis shoes that will wear out in 6 weeks.
