I have only played a few times, but driving a ball at an opponent seems to be a very useful and acceptable play in pickleball. At least with the folks I play with. You don't have as much space to pass around so forcing an error that way works. I dunno if there is any rule or even unspoken rule not to attack the opponents.

Hitting the person is part of the game...but it's all mutual respect.. typically we don't intentionally try to hit one another... But if we do...it's mostly from the waist down...
