Silent Partner e.Stringer SC ????

Hello All,

I have a chance to pick-up one of these, but have some concerns. The company is no longer in the stringing machine business..correct? Is it possible to obtain parts? service? I have read that this machine needs to have tension calibrated often. How is that done? I know you need to obtain a instrument to do so.. but how does one calibrate an electric tensioner? How does one make an adjustment? BTW... also have no manual

I have read a few reviews...not the best. The machine is a bit dirty but looks like it is in fine working order otherwise. Comes with one fixed clamp and one flying clamp. Mounting system looks easy to use and the base is very well made.

I could use any advice including what to offer for this machine.

Thanks TT folks..

If the price is low, i wouldn't consider so much as long as it still usable. Unless you intend to use it intensively, i will give it a pass.

I string about 200 frames a year. I think I can get the unit for $150.00

Yeah, what are you stringing on now? I had the FL for a little while when I started stringing. Good feature set for the price, but the implementation of everything was slightly less awesome than desired. Tensioner is not wonderful for an electric type tensioner.

Using an old tank of a machine. Alpha Pioneer II dropweight...6 point mounting system. I think the e.Stringer SC sold for $399.00.

Thanks..

Don't recall if this model was truly constant pull. At this price point, don't think that it used load cells.

Search for Albert Lee's thread on this issue.

Regarding the Alpha Pioneer, ain't nothing wrong with the machine as a DW.

Wouldn't say it'll feel like a significant upgrade, IMO. I feel like the e.Stringers filled a pricing and overall feature niche when they were around, but I feel like the current crop of Gamma/Alpha level table top cranks are pretty solid for the price, with the ability to add on a Wise. The e.Stringer clamps were cone lock, and didn't perform as well as they truly should have. I liked the mounting system, though.

I have been using the Alpha Pioneer II for at least 10 years. Have made some minor repairs (even I can do them..LOL) with very little effort. Can still get parts and the folks at Alpha ( NEW Tech Tennis) are great. No... not a great upgrade to move to this e.Stringer SC. BTW.. I got the Alpha Pioneer for about $125.00 shipped and have almost no money into it. I just replaced the cluch spring this week...$10.00..:). I am not sure the e.Stringer would be faster. Seems like I can't get parts or service..support and have to worry about calibration. Unless gravity changes.. the Alpha Pioneer does not need an adjustment anytime soon. Might still pick the stringing up if the price is right just as new toy.. or sell it for parts.

Thanks guys..

Steve

I had the e.Stringer SC and didn't really enjoy stringing on it at all. I replaced the rotational gripper and the string would still slip occasionally when tensioning. I also didn't care for the way it applied tension. It would go 5 lbs above reference tension then ease towards the reference tension. When I called for some new parts the rep told me that was normal for the machine. The single fixed clamp worked okay and while I'm not a floating clamp fan it too worked appropriately. I think the best part of the machine was it seemed to mount the racquets pretty solidly.

If you string about 200 frames per year I assume you make over $2000 ($10 per frame)

Why not invest less than half of that in something like an Alpha Revo 4000 which would be a nice upgrade and allow for adding something like a wise tension head in the future?
