Silent Partner e.Stringer Tensioning Problems

I have a Silent Partner e.Stringer and have been experiencing some tensioning issues. When I strung my first racket on the machine (60 lbs.), I noticed that it felt quite a bit looser than what 60 lbs. normally feels like. So I bought a tension calibrator and soon realized that it was ~15 lbs. off. Since then, I check the tension before I string each racket and each time the calibrator shows different tensions. I was wondering if this is the nature of rotational gripper electronic stringing machines or if the tensioner of my stinger is defective. I would appreciate any help.

There have been reports that AC voltage fluctuation in your house can effect the final tension pulled by the electric motor. Try putting it on a relative clean line, a breaker without other major appliances on it , and see if it helps. Silent Partner use to recommend a 5 minute warm up for the motors. Bottom line, I'm not sure their pull tension is very consistant unless your power supply is extremely consistant.

^^^I bought the sp e stringer. I decided to send it back as I don't like stringing rackets. its worth the $10 to me to get mine strung, (w/my own string). Although in the future I plan on learning and buying another stringing machine, I wouldn't buy an e-stringer again though.

i myself have owned a sp e-stringer. i never had any luck with it. i had the same problems that you are having right now. i sent the stringer back to sp and brought a maestro. they gave me a full refund since i brought another stringer from them. they were very nice about it to. i have come along way since that first stringer. i now have a wise to go with it. the maestro has top of the line clamps and turntable. there are many other stringers that you can go with also. i don't think you will ever be happy with the e-stringer.

How long did you have your stringer before returning it? And what would be some alternative machines to look into?

i had it about 4 months. if you return it to sp and don't buy another from them they will most likely give you only a partial refund, but i could be wrong. the guys name was steve that i talked to and he was super nice and helpful to me. (i don't know if he still works there are not) if you do decide to return the e-stringer my advice to you would be to not get anything less than a maestro from them. i would advise a alpha or gamma product if you want to go with someone else. the alpha revo is a nice machine that you would be happy with. keep in mind, do you want a full refund for the e-stringer. if you send it back to them please call them and talk to steve. you must repackage it carefully, it must be protected as much as possible. the different between the maestro and the e-stringer is like night and day and more. the turn table and clamps you will have to see to believe, how much better they are. good luck!

What are your thoughts on the DG? It is a constant pull machine and is only $100 more than the MAESTRO, which is manual. Thanks.

well, i can tell you a few things. first the turntable and the mounting are the same as the maestro. the clamps are not. the clamps on the maestro are the 3 tooth, and much better. the dg clamps are very good also, just not as good. now the tensioner. it is constant pull with alot of features. i have never heard anything bad about the dg. it has had very good reviews. really the only thing i know about the dg is what i have seen and read. going from a estringer to the dg will be a big time step. consider this---i use to take my son 30 miles to a stringer (that's one way) and she charged $22. he always took 2 rackets to her. if he broke one he would play until the other broke. if we went 10 times that's over $400, and i did not even caculate the gas that we had to pay. he and myself now string many other rackets for people. here's the point----it took no time for the stringer to pay for itself!!! if you can get the dg, get it!! i'll tell you again "it will pay for itself fast".

I have had the DG for over a year I have strung many types of racquets with several types string, including natural gut. It does everything a home stringer would want and probably more. Mounting system good, clamps fine, tensioning is true constant pull and sensitive to changes . Silent Partner customer service above reproach. There is no comparison to the e-stinger which I also used for a couple of years. If the DG is within your price range I would heartedly recommend.
