Gilles Simon made a splash to begin the 2008 North American hardcourt season when he went to the top of the USOpen bonus challenge.

After that, he beat the then-world #1 Roger Federer 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 at Masters Series Toronto (Jul 21-Jul 27).

Three months later, he beat the current-world #1 Rafael Nadal 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (8-6) at Mutua Madrilena Masters Madrid (Oct 13-Oct 19).

I wonder what the stats are on players who have beaten two different World Number Ones in the same year?

As I mentioned in another thread, Simon has beaten most of the current top 10 players (#1 Nadal, #2 Federer and #3 Djokovic this year; #4 Murray, #6 Davydenko and #9 Del Potro last year). Remarkable performance.

Except the 2007 Murray/Del Potro were not exactly the same as the 2008 Murray/Del Potro.

Wasn't there already a thread about this? Anyway, as long as Simon represents another person that can beat Nadal on hardcourts then I am fine with him.

Technically Roddick deserves it more because he has more points. That's how it works. If Simon overtakes him then he deserves it.
