At least he's showing some consistency.
Murray might be also Del Potro. I think they will both win a slam in 2010.
LOL. Reed is a complete clown. I can't believe he's still in a job!
Someone from the uk praising murray? Wow, never seen that before
That's quite lazy.
Have you seen Simon Reed's articles? They are usually always wrong, he's written ones practically claiming Verdasco is set to be the GOAT, is that no surprise either as he had a bit of paella a few years back?
Does the guy own or head yahoo/eurosport?
So Murray is the best player in the World yet he is not sure if he is even going to win a single slam?! That is incredibly poorly thought out and stupid sounding, even for his own low standards.
Murray could be #1 and the winner of 2 slams in 2010, he's way better than most shortsighted tennis fans give him credit at the moment, but Reed's just something else.
I'm still waiting for an explanation for his "Murray is the real #1"-article.
in fact he's been saying murray is "the true no.1" for about a year.
and then he gets buttsexed.
keep up the good work simon. everyone outside the uk hates murray.
thanks for the jinx.
Is he British? It sounds as if he is.
With all due respect (i love England) this is sooo typical British tabloids/ journalism, its like when England wins 1-0 vs Egypt by scoring in the 89th minute and the tabloids has big fat headlines "We will win the World Cup" and stuff like that.
He doesnt give the Brits a fair wiew imo.
i could be the winner of 54 slams in 2014. but nobody gives me enough credit...
crazy, i know...
the sad thing is he's a pretty good commentator in live matches....
and he knows tennis...i think eurosport are paying him to write that garbage in order to create controversy...
No you couldn't.
Murray on the other hand will soon go from vastly underrated to vastly overhyped ("better than Federer and Nadal at their peak") when he starts the season by winning the AO.
like in '09, right?...you are cluless-moppy murray will never win a slam.
If some people claim that the guy with 6 slams is the true GOAT, then why not the guy with 0 slams to be the true No. 1
Second that. Reed's stupidity is reaching new heights. Murray didn't even play that well in Valencia...
Ive never had the possibility to listen o him, where is he working? Eurosport?
Thats very possible although his reputation will be really damaged imo.
Do you really believe in this? Or just trying to start a controversy?
I NEVER hyped Murray or predicted him to win a slam this year, but I'm not blind when it comes to his talent and potential. He did underachieve big time this year in the slams, he'll do better next year.
I fear that the Murray-****s will be a pain in the ass when my prediction comes true.
I will accept Murray as number 1 in the world when the rankings say he is... until then, I believe he is number 3... and number 1 and 2 have been around awhile.
Oops... make that number 4... seems Novak is ahead of him this week...
I don't know if he wins AO, Wimbledon or USO, but I'm pretty sure that he'll win one, maybe even two (if he starts by winning AO).
Imo, AO-forget about it, the heat there has proven too much for him as we have seen before.
Wimby- Here is his biggest chance imo, even if he doesnt play good the crazy Brits will carry him.
USO- I dont think so, if he runs into a player on fire he has no answer (Cilic ? )
I think what he means is that Murray is the best player in the world for a day or two when everyone else is playing at 70% to protect themselves prior to the London finals
I think Murray will underachieve in London.
Murray had his breakthrough in 2008, that year at the AO he lost in the first round to Tsonga, this year he had a virus and lost a close match to Verdasco.
How do those two losses proof that he can't handle the heat?
His game is very well suited for the plexicushion surface.
At the US Open he showed more than a year ago that he can do very well on the surface. This year he was struggling big time with his wrist when he lost to Cilic.
He already beat Nadal in NY and Djokovic on the similiar courts of Cincinatti, and Federer will struggle more and more to bring his top level at the slams.
What happened in 2007 vs Nadal? He broke down due to the heat imo.
Well we can speculate until the end of time about this, the thing is he has got to bring it for 2 weeks ready to go 5 sets- can he do it? Imo, not in AO.
But hey! The speculating is fun, right?
Thanks for the reminder.
2007 isn't relevant, Murray's a different player now (phyiscally).
People try to read way to much in past perfomances at a certain slam, it often doesn't work with young players.
Nadal will win his 1st USO before Murray wins ANY slam.
Yeah, i can agree with this.
Del Po came out of nowhere (in GS) and won the USO in his first final, Murray SHOULD be ready. IF he wins a GS it will be Wimby imo
Not a chance in hell, sorry.
Nadal already won a slam on hard court.
There is a huge difference on the AO-surface and the USO-surface
Why does he do it though? why does he say these stupid things? He's supposed to be knowledgable about the game. He's acting like a moron - maybe he is a moron but his superiors should stop him comming out with these statements which make him look the moron that he clearly is.
He has a great grasscourt game, but I think he needs to win the AO to win Wimbledon, otherwise the pressure might be too much.
When did Murray become a favorite for Wimbledon? When BBC said so?
He won Queens and reached Wimbledon SF beating the likes of Blake, Ferrero and Gulbis, and struggling with Wawrinka.
Federer and Nadal can beat him on grass even without their top form. Roddick too. And if Djokovic had the same draw as Murray, he would have had the same results (W in Queens, SF in Wimbleodn).
IF...IF...IF he wins a GS I THINK it will be Wimbledon.
I never said he is a favourite to win W, that imo is Federer for at least another 2 years.
Nadal has already dominated on 3 different slam surfaces. He's reached the USO semis twice in a row. This year, he played with only 70% capacity due to an abdominal tear.
It's just a matter of time.
Good point, definetely agree.
No, he has dominated on 1 surface.
And USO is by far the fastest, read, therefore he will never win it. His best chance was this or last year.
If you play- you are ready for war, if not- too bad.
Domination= Roger Federer- Hardcourt-Grass- You see?
Nadal has never dominated on any surface except clay. He reached the AO final ONCE and got outplayed comprehensively both times he reached the USO semi.
No, I wasn't criticizing your opinion, just expressing dismay that he was considered a favorite for Wimbledon.
I think he may have more chance at hardcourts. That's where he has had the most success in the past. But, when you look at it, he hasn't beaten anyone important in HC slam. Last year at USO, he took out young DelP in QF and Nadal in SF on Nadal's worst surface. I, for one, am not impressed.
You are very nice to Nadal, id say this year he got totally blown off the court !
Was a great thing to see
Maybe in insignificant little Greece.
FO '09 - Nadal: defending champ.
Wimby '09 - Nadal: defending champ.
AO '10 - Nadal: defending champ.
Fed has a slight edge over Nadal at the USO should they ever meet, but that's about it.
Same thing happened at the AO'08 semis, but in '09, he won it.
Ok, im not gonna argue with this, you are a troll.
To stand any chance to win a slam, one has to make it to the finals in the 1st place.
Well, IMO Reed's opinion isn't entirely wrong. Sure, Murray, results wise, is far from being the best in the world. However, Murray IS the most consistent player outside the slams, and when he wins a slam (it's just a matter of time) he will have the potential to become #1.
What seems most odd to me is the fact Reed completley ignored Del Potro in his comments (unless this is a very old article that's been written way before DP won his slam) The guy is the latest grand slam winner, has beaten Nadal and Fed back to back for the trophy.
Separate names with a comma.
