Keep crying. The match shouldn't even been that close.Damn. May she live forever in Castle Dracula.
Sad she didn't get a bigger goodbye after all the crap she's been through, but I guess doing it at home is sweet. I can never quite forgive her for losing that 2018 Australian Open final, but her Wimbledon win was truly badass. Also, 2014 was amazing tennis from her.
Sad/controversial ending aside, I'd say the boob job was worth it after all.
made only 3 unforced errors that day.Doper or not, tennis was better with Halep. That 2019 Wimbledon final is still one of the best played grass matches I’ve ever seen by a woman ever
The wta finals Singapore was a shock result. 6-0 6-2One of my favs of the modern era, she was quite the firecracker.
And she will always be a member of the Wimbledon club, which was a big dream of hers.
Surely she is deserving of a Wild Card as a former champion.
She should be retiring at Wimbledon not Transylvania.
I feel the same way about you.Strangely I was never a fan of Halep. I can't say I'll be missing her.
Unfortunately for you I won't be retiring anytime soon from here.I feel the same way about you.
You clearly didn't read the ITIA report if you think she was innocentTrue champion. The ITIA really did a number on her with the allegations they brought. Not a chance she was guilty and it torpedoed the last part of her career.
Meh. Doper.
uh huh. 'the court of arbitration for sport (Cas) ruled that she was not guilty of intentional doping.' Good enough for me.You clearly didn't read the ITIA report if you think she was innocent
seems like she had more "epic" matches than any other WTA player of the last 10 years. Also I think she probably has the record for most 1st round losses at a major while being a top 2 seed.
2016 AO - 1R loss, seeded 2
2017 USO - 1R loss, seeded 2
2018 USO - 1R loss, seeded 1
in 21 of the 44 majors she played, she lost 1st or 2nd round! And made at least the QF in 16 majors, quite a feast or famine like record.
Meh. Doper.
And her former coach is retiring this year as well.
I'm guessing she was on borrowed time and retired to dodge another positive test
Transylvania, you say? What's her blood type?
Not a flattering record, to be sure.
...and...
Probably. If both were on the same page about PEDs, and her positive test was not the result of an "accident" or ignorance, it would be wise for both to beat a path out of the sport before she's exposed again.
Rats from a sinking ship. IMO
R positive.Transylvania, you say? What's her blood type?
The timing of Halep and her former coach both retiring in the same year, and considering their history appears quite suspicious.
Mugu was a former champion at rg. So maybe she was keen to double her tally. And ostapenkos win in 2017 must have made her feel the style she had would work fine.I remember her US Open 2015 QF vs. Azarenka was a thriller, as was her 2018 Australian Open SF vs. Kerber, when she fended off a couple of match points on Kerber’s serve.
I felt relieved from behind my TV screen, when she finally got her major win at RG in 2018. Muguruza seemed very confident and actually cocky that she’d beat her in their SF at that tournament, but Halep won it convincingly. When she lost the first set against Stephens in the final (Stephens was the reigning US Open and Miami champion and had a 6-0 record in tournament finals at the time), I was worried that a grand slam title would continue to elude her.
I expected her to win RG, but I never expected her to win Wimbledon. I watched her R3 win against Azarenka during her 2019 title run in person. The match was considered to be a toss-up, but she won it easily and returned incredibly well.
It's never a great look when someone is banned for doping and they usually want to come back and show that they can compete clean. A hasty retirement after poor results makes it look like dope was needed to compete.
I wouldn't say that. More likely to have been with the natural waning of her physical ability and her loathing of cardio work. That detail calls her entire career into legitimate question. In other words, PEDs "earned" her victories, not skill above any other player. Now, she runs from the sport, but not from her legacy.
