Simona Halep

Fes, QF:

Simona Halep (A Q, #144, 18 years old) b. Patty Schnyder (#47) 62 76 (73)

and goes on to the SFs and to at least #116 on the computer!!

She plays now as a top 40 player, IMO.

Let's hope she's not finished in this tournament, with Navarro gone and so on.

Every Simona Halep thread usually ends up deleted for some strange reason

Congrats to her, however!

Teen Halep beats Voracova to reach Fez final

FEZ, Morocco (AP)—Romanian teenager Simona Halep reached her first WTA Tour final Friday, beating Renata Voracova of the Czech Republic 7-5, 6-4 at the Grand Prix SAR.

The 18-year-old Halep pressured Voracova’s service games to win more than half of her return points even though the Czech landed 81 percent of her first serves and hit only one double-fault.

Halep will next play the winner of the semifinal between Alize Cornet of France and Iveta Benesova of the Czech Republic.

Voracova took a 3-0 lead, but lost four service games in a row to drop the opening set.

Halep broke Voracova twice to lead 4-1 in the next set and held on despite losing her serve in the sixth game. The 144th-ranked Halep saved a break point and converted her third match point in the final game.

The tournament is the only WTA Tour stop in Africa.

I think the reduction of weight has probably helped her.

Congratulations to Simona! Hope she wins the tournament.

Good to see her doing well. She was a French Open juniors champ a few years ago, so apparently she's reaching her potential on the clay.

Amazing run by her in the last weeks! Who knows how high she can climb now if she can keep that level of game.
I always thought her boobs were too large before! ;-)

Look at my photo of Simona at Roland Garros earlier this year.
She is so talented and from my country.
She had many chances against Jankovic at US Open and I hope she can make another big jump for her career!!!
I took many photos but noticed this she was hitting with a different racket for the warm up then the one she plays her matches with. Her coached just had her hit 5 minutes with this racket. Maybe testing new rackets, but during a big tournament is no good.
I notice she switched from K Blade to BLX Tour before US Open, but maybe she is hitting with a new BLX racket here? Or a BLX Blade?
Maybe she needs to be comfortable with a new racket.
I wish her good luck with her tennis!
