Since ’89, only three players have won another different Grand Slam other than RG

JOINING THE GRAND SLAM TITLE CLUB – History indicates a player is likely to capture his first career Grand Slam title at Roland Garros. In the Open Era, 21 players have notched their first Grand Slam crown in Paris, more than any other Grand Slam tournament. Of the past 19 winners since 1989 when Michael Chang captured his first and only Slam title, 12 claimed their first Slam crown in Paris, including Rafael Nadal in 2005. In addition, since ’89, only three players (Andre Agassi, Jim Courier, Yevgeny Kafelnikov) have won another different Grand Slam title other than Roland Garros.

This is taken from the aTP website. What do you guys think of this?

I think in three weeks it will be four players :)

It also suggests that alot of players win the French, and history states that they then dont go on to do very much at all anywhere else.. I guess what I am saying is that holding the winning record on clay really doesnt amount to much, if you cant win anything else?

I think S & V, or for that matter an all court game will find its way back into tennis, after everyone works out that clay tennis is not what people rate it to be..

good comments from "chris" (sorry can't remember whole name)....

but yeah for sure federer doesn't have to win FO to have excellent claim on GOAT...

but he's GOAT with as many exclamation marks as he wants if he wins FO (better if rafa is healthy, but doesn't matter that much)

I have to agree with you, most of the RG winners are one-court wonder. even though I can't really say that about Michael chang because because he was more of a hard court player, and he did get into the final of US open and Australian Open. Also there were 5 years in a row where the winners of the US open would beat Micahel chang on their path to the championship and I think 3 of those were 5 setters.

People will use whatever will get them wins. At the moment it is the baseline "clay tennis" game.

Why '89. Is that a magic number :)

Before that Lendl, Wilander, Borg, Vilas etc. had won French and other slams.
