What is Single favourite moment from your single favourite player?

Moment can be defined as a tournament victory or match victory or maybe just winning a set?

For me it has to be this because I feared it would never happen.

As a Federer fan since 2000, I've loads of favourite RF moments, but if I had to pick one, I would definitely choose last year's Wimbeldon triumph over Murray. I wanted to see him win at least one more major and seeing him hold that gold Wimbledon trophy for probably the last time :( brought tears in my eyes. I will never forget that moment along with the other great moments of happiness that RF has given me over the years.

Mark Philippoussis getting to the Wimbledon Final in 2003, unseeded, just recovered from an injury beating some great players in his run only to be defeated by the GOAT Roger Federer. Goran Ivanišević 2001 Wimbledon is also there. Both are my favorites of years gone by.

Also when Mark beat Sampras at the Australian Open.

Goran shaking out his nervous hand serving out for his Wimbie win. So humane and memorable because he wanted Wimbie so bad.

Good thread. Maybe people should also mention the worst moment and the favorite moment. To make things interesting.

Worst for me was Federer's loss to Djokovic at USO 2011. That combined with the year before was really tough to stomach. The only thing that made it halfway bearable was that I didn't think Federer would beat Nadal anyway, but I still hate that moment above all others.

I have several favorite players, but the single most thrilling instance in pro tennis for me came when Nadal's shot sailed long to give Federer the win in the fourth set tiebreaker of Wimbledon 2008, not necessarily the greatest match of all time, but surely one of the most dramatic.

Yea same here, I was hoping Roger was gonna cry tears of joy but Murray sabotaged that unfortunately.

Honestly if I was going just by my reaction to a point/set win the first one that comes to mind (maybe because it's the most recent) is when Federer (and Murray) played that brilliant point where Fed took the 2nd set of the 2012 Wimbledon final with that cut volley at the net.

I remember smacking the wall in my bedroom and hurting my hand I was so happy because I knew if Federer lost that set he wasn't coming back, and I think many people thought it was his last real chance to win a major which now unfortunately looks to be true. For some reason, I also had a feeling that Federer would win if he took the 2nd set, and then when the roof closed my belief that Federer would win just grew exponentially. On top of that, the BP's he saved at 2-2 and 4-4 made the set win that much sweeter.

I remember one of those BP's vividly. Federer had to hit 3 smashes from basically on top of the net. So naturally when he couldn't put the first 2 away I nearly had a heart attack.

I get the feeling that Murray only cries at losing finals he expected to win. He has done it only twice, at the 2010 AO final and the 2012 Wimby final and they were 2 of his best performances out of his 5 lost Slam finals and ones I think he particularly thought he should have won and had genuine expectations of doing so. That he failed on each occasion and by a larger margin than he had anticipated proved particularly emotional for him. For Federer, losing the 2009 AO final was the same.

I felt for Murray, as it was his 4th slam final defeat. But yeah, it would have been sweet, if both Fed and Muzza had cried together. One crying tears of happiness, whilst the other, the tears of sadness.

The worst moment as a Federer fan was definitely the AO 2009 final. He really should have won that match in no more than straight sets, but instead choked it away in 5. And the worst part was seeing him cry during the presentation, that made it very hard for me to watch, so I changed the channel. Lol.

For me, it was Nadal winning that 4th set in USO final this year and then the final itself... it was incredible how he managed to snatch that set away. That slam win was for me its biggest acheivment so far that was not in Paris, and it will be regarded as a pivotal point in his career

For Federer, it was, no doubt, winning WIN 2012, and to do it against the home player at 31. Just shows what an amazing player he is

The worst moments for Federer and Nadal... well i have to give the biggest credit to Djoko, we was resposible for both of them -2 really heartbreaking losses

Talking about USO 2011 SF (I REALLY wanted that federer nadal final in new york :( ) and Australian open final 2012, altough that was a game in which the loser would always feel it was bad luck. I think if not for 2012 RG win, Nadal would not be in the position he is now

Yea this was at the time. But now when I look back at highlight reels, Rome 06 feels the worst.

When Rafa won Wimbledon 2008. That match was beautiful, obviously it went on longer than it should have, but that just added to the drama. Rafa kind guy, didn't want to straight-set his buddy Roger :)

Yeah, that is another tough loss. Initially, I didn't feel that bad, as it was only a masters, but looking back at the highlights and the fact that he will probably never gets his hands on the Rome trophy makes me very sad. :(

Rafa winning Wimbledon 08 was pretty epic. It was the one time when, during one of the rain breaks, you'd be at the convenience store and people were talking about tennis. When Rafa won I went nuts.

However, Rafa is not my absolute favorite. That would be sir Andrew Roddick. He's given me many great memories, but shaming defending champ Djokovic at AO 09 might take the cake.

USO 2009. Juan Martin thrashing Rafa in the semifinals and beating Roger in the final, as a nervous first time major finalist.

WTA- Wimbledon 2003. GOATrena avenges her loss to the "cheating henin" at the FO by completely destroying her at Wimbledon. Unfortunately Venus had to suffer Serena's wrath in the finals as well :(

Sampras 1999 Wimbledon final. Scary tennis
I was gonna call the GOAT out on what I believe to be the most dominating display of tennis I have ever seen.... But you beat me to it :) So I'll settle on his final match beating Agassi in NY... Nothing beats going out as the champ... It sure beats going out as a has-been like Agassi

I thought 2013 was Novak's best chance at FO. Rafa, still looking vulnerable on clay in the FO, after his 7 month injury outage.

Mate, Rafa will be 28 by RG. He can't keep going on forever. He has to lose there someday and that will probably happen to Nole.

Funny how anti Nadal fans ignore the huge mistake in thinking that Nadal would be weak after his outage! There were multiple posts regarding Novak winning prior to his losing to Nadal!

Nope, Nadal will eventually lose. But, if Nadal didn't lose after his outage, then it will most likely take longer than a single year. It's funny how anti Nadal fans act like he we be weaker an being back rather than after an outage!

Winning Wimbledon 2011 by beating Nadal.
Saving two match points in the USO 2011 SF vs Federer and winning the title after that again vs Nadal.

And it's funny how delusional Nad fans think that he will go on forever. He isn't ageless FYI. He will decline and when he does his decline will be a lot steeper than that of Federer's.

I'll second that. I was on cloud nine for weeks afterwards (I still am a bit). :)

Saddest Andy moment: Andy not winning 2012 Wimbledon and breaking down at the post-match interview because he thought he had let the home fans down (on the other hand, it was nice for Roger to clinch his 7th Wimby title and match Renshaw's and Sampras' all-time records.)

Most irritating Andy moment: Andy holding FIVE match points in the final of 2012 Shanghai and not converting ANY of them! It's the only time I've ever felt like slapping him!

Most anxious Andy moment: His recent back surgery.:?

The final was just incredible! He was not afraid of Djoker at all. Djoker played good, but Andy was supreme.Andy has become the best grass player in the world right now. Just won it it 3 straight sets. But that match felt so much longer. Emotional rollercoaster for me. I started drinking some wine to cope with it during the match. Went straight out after and went to party. It was a very very good day!

My favorite moment is when Andy Roddick beated Murray at the SF of Wimbledon 2009. He is my favorite player, having two bad years before that he came back to the top that day.Incredible tournament for him, he had like 70% average first serve with some matches going to 80%. The other thing that made me happy was placing a combined bet before the tournament that "Andy will reach the final" and "Andy will have most aces in the tournament" with odds around 25-30 i Won around 600$ that day .... technicaly it was the final because he needed two aces to beat Karlovic.

The worst is in the span of 1 year between summer 2009 and summer 2010.
1. His losses to Del Potro into the Washington final and Canada SF where he was winning the first set , being close in the decider and eventually losing both.
2. His loss to Isner in New York because he really had a decent shot for the title.
3. His loss to Cilic at the AO 2010 QF, still I dont know how he lost that one.He was playing good tennis and suddenly was 0-2 behind. He came back and had break points in the fifth in the first service game of Cilic didnt take them and after that just collapced. This is the most painfull for me.
4.The loss to Lu in the 4rd of Wimbledon. In the QF He had to beat Djokovic in his worst ever year (at that time he had like 4 straight wins against him), Berdych in the SF stll being the favorite beating the czech the year before and at the Miami final 3 months earlier. And in the final he had to play Nadal being probably again the favorite because he beated him Miami that year and he had the weapons to do it again.

I watch tennis since 2005 and I didnt saw Andy in his strongest years so its a bit strange list.In that span of 1 year I really tought that he had a real chance for something bigger : winning a Slam and geting back to top 3 and losing to Isner, Cilic and Lu was veryd disapointing for me and probably 10X for Andy.

Safin winning the Australian open after beating federer in the semis and then Hewhitt in the final. That was back in the day when federer hardly lost a match

Yeah that was epic!
I've also liked it when Rafa made his first come-back to win RG (was it 2-3 years ago?).

Some of my worst were the DC finals when Nastase blew it against US...But heroic play from his team mate.

favourite moment for murray was 13 as the entire crowd was behind him.
Roddick was 2009 Wimbledon because people started to look at him in a new perspective.

Serena at the Olympics last year is my second favorite tournament of hers. Her serve overall during the whole tournament was outstanding.

1st round vs Jankovic (6-3 6-1)

2nd round vs Radwanska (6-2 6-3)

3rd round vs Zvonareva (6-1 6-0)

Quarterfinals vs Wozniacki (6-0 6-3)

Semifinals vs Azarenka (6-1 6-2)

Final vs Sharapova (6-0 6-1)

Had to be the US Open this year. I mean, even after Toronto and Cincy, it just didn't seem possible that Nadal was going to triple-up on hardcourt. Unbelievable. I'm still paritally in shock that he won.

On the flip side: the sitter at 30-15 4-2 at AO 2012. Almost two years later and I still think about it about once a month. Just devastating. Silver lining is that Nadal had absolutely no business winning that match. Absolutely bossed all around the court for 2 1/2 sets. Nole made up for it a lot though by running into the net at RG. Even worse mistake with the match on the line.

28 is not so old. Plus, Novak will be 27. But what we're saying is that, at least on paper, it's logical that this year was Novak's best chance, with Rafa coming back from a long injury lay off and playing up and down during the tournament. Other than some similar contingence this year, there's nothing to indicate Rafa's level at the tournament next year would be lower than this year, or that Novak's would be higher.

About the OP's question, it's hard to choose one moment from Rafa's career. It's easy to lean towards the newest ones, like RG and the USO this year :), but there's also Wimbledon 2008, the AO 2009, the USO 2010.

Marcelo Ríos getting to number one with that amazing match against Agassi :)

Hard to choose...

Rios beating Agassi in the 1998 Miami final to become world #1 and throwing his racquet up into the stands.

Federer emotional first Wimbledon win ..tearing up in the interview.

Sampras getting major #13 at Wimbledon with his parents there (they never went to his matches).

Ivanisevic finally winning Wimbledon in 2001 after losing in the finals 80 times.

Federer finally winning RG.

I'm just happy I got to see them all.

This is a good point. Nole is getting older too. Nothing indicates that Nole will start to defeat Rafa or that young players will start to defeat Rafa.

I mean, why hasn't Nadal declined already? Fed has youngsters to take advantage of his decline.

But Rafa, doesn't have those and Nole and Murray are declining with him.

Well, Federer is my favorite player.

But, I have to say my favorite moment is from my second or third favorite...Goran Ivanisevic. His Wimbledon triumph as a WC after all the disappointments was without a doubt my favorite moment as a tennis fan.
