Singles Serve Vs. Doubles Serve

Alright,

This is probably a weird question, but i've been playing Doubles Tennis for the last3 years now for my highschool, but now, the 7 seniors on the HS team have graduated, which leaves me playing the no. 1 singles spot on my team. Which means i'm going from dubs to singles

My problem is switching from serving out wide in doubles to serving closer to the middle in singles, I've developed a habit of hitting my serves out wide in dubs so that my partner usually gets easy volleys or occasionally hitting down the line with I formation or to keep opponents honest. (i'm not that great with strategy, so bare with me :D)
So yeah....long story short, does anyone have any good tips on switching between dubs serving and singles serving? i've tried altering my toss, wrist snap and everything, but the darned ball keeps landing about 2 inches too far wide. my two options seem to be either i 1) take a little of first serve and try to get them in, or 2) i stand out wide serving, but that usually just leaves me defensless for a down the line shot.

any suggestions?

thanks a bunch for reading this insanely large post.

try standing slightly more turned away from the service box. in other words, if you're right-handed, stand with your body turned slightly more to the right and serve normally.

Great advice from Gold Chick.

In addition, to be successful at singles, you should focus on serving to the backhand.

IMO, in most if not all cases, high schoolers forehand are twice as good as their backhand. My guess is they can't hurt you and you may get more free/cheap points. When they start leaning toward the backhand side, that's when you serve wide to their forehand... or right at their gut.

Good luck.
