SINNER’s DOMINANT return game performance at the 2024 USO

Good stats, OP. This has been very informative. Sinner appears on his way to having ATG returns stats. The guy is becoming a monster.

His movement was compromised for much of the summer I noted its impact on his return stats. I think he might mix in the deep return position more on clay in 2025 as has the weight of shot to do so to create tactical questions for his opponents.

The better he becomes, the worse his opponents will be in the eyes of old posters yelling at the digital clouds.

Sinner is having another great tournament returning outside of his first match if the year vs. Jarry who has a good serve.

He‘s won 42.9% of return points, which is a solid number; without the Jarry match, it’d be around 45%-46%.

Also of note: Shelton ha failed to win 60% of his 1st serve points on hardcourts only three times in his career:

vs. Sinner, 2025 AO, 57.1% of first serve points won
vs. Sinner, 2024 IW, 57.4% of first serve points won
vs. Djokovic, 2023 USO, 59.7% of firs serve points won

If anything , this underlines how crazy Djokovic was in 2011 USO- 2012 AO.

Given he played Fraud x 1 , Ned x 2 , Murray x 1 and bunch of top 10-20.

Great dig, Sinner can absorb serve speed like few others in history. Keep in mind that overall the servers are ever earning higher percentages, makes his return numbers all the more impressive.

His serve has the greater room for improvement, as crazy it might sound for the guy holding most. He does so despite having a serve shot quality below the top3, according to Tennis Insights. m

In yesterday's match with Shelton at Sinner I also saw him make some blocked returns, something that Sinner practically never does.
