Sinner almost lost against injured and jetlaged Djokovic

Today's semifinal match between Djokovic and Sinner gives a great hope for Djokovic's 2025 season. Sinner played on this super fast altitude Riaad court yesterday, so he had an advantage for an adaptation. Djokovic came jetlaged late (even no DAZN interview until late afternoon today). Djokovic broke Sinner's serve several times and destroyed him 7:0 in TB. Djokovic injured his shoulder during the second set, it influenced his serve by a negative way during third set. This match is a big confidence booster Serbian Tiger.

Djokovic had a bad pre season training camp before 2024 season. If he can manage a good pre season training camp 2025.... I see Djokovic chances in Australia 2025 and Paris 2025 very high.

It sounds so funny to hear people that Sinner brought tennis on a new highest peak level ever. And then see him struggling with all advantages today. Djokovic 2023 would annihilate this Sinner.

Illogical. Getting hurt while trying to keep up with a much younger no. 1 in a best-of-three semi-serious match does not bode well for one's survival chances in a seven-round, best-of-five tournament in which everyone is playing with maximum ferocity.

It's better to believe in Santa Claus than to believe that exhos bear any sort of relevance. The fact that the Laver C*ck (thank you Fed) matches count for the H2Hs and that TennisTV post highlights of this 6 King garbage is absolutely sickening.

Sinner is taking tennis to new levels and as much as I hate to say it , the tour including Djokovic is not able to keep up . Alcaraz is the only one who is able to match

I watched the match. I didn't know that Djoko was jet-lagged but I did see that the shoulder was bothering him. But he held up real good. There were many positives to be taken away including breaking Sinner multiple times which he hadn't done in his last two matches.

Since then he has made much more strides including beating Djokovic twice. And today could have been just straight sets again

Right but Sinner has not taken the game to new heights. He is a good player who is made to look even better as he ducks Alcaraz and plays Djokovic who has had surgery this year.

Honestly Sinner is enjoying god like status for beating Fritz and an old man. Joke.

It is extremely important. Those players are prize PRO players. GS with low prize money looks suddenly poor.

Meh. It's still an exho at the end of the day. The ATP doesn't even count it in the H2H while they do it for the LC. Even if one player wins a match 6-0 6-0 I still wouldn't take it seriously. . I didn't watch the matches and I don't intend to, but I heard Alcaraz was clearly not giving his 100% today or he would have lost less than 6 games.

I can agree with you on one thing though. 2023 Djokovic was better than 2024 Sinner and Alcaraz. I'm not ready to write Djokovic off in Slams in 2025. IMO he can beat Alcaraz in AO and RG (Wim and USO would be more difficult) and he can beat Sinner in RG and Wimbledon. I think AO and RG will be his best chances. If he peaks and doesn't have to go through both Alcaraz and Sinner, he will have his chances. And in Wimbledon an Alcaraz upset is not too far-fetched (almost happened with Tiafoe and Humbert this year) Djokovic is still 2nd best on grass. The level he showed in Shanghaï was good enough to win a Slam if Sinner and Alcaraz aren't at their best.

I don’t think so, Sinner been getting better and better, would have most likely won no matter what in this situation.

Novak will need to resurrect Ultron to win or forget it, this new gen is just too good

Have to be honest and say I didn't watch this match, and as always exhos and exhos, you don't expect players to give their all, not even close. But I watched highlights and it really looked like they were playing close to their fullest, and then one point took my attention. Look at this point when Djokovic got the break back in third set of the match and see Sinner's reaction at the end:

Correct me if I'm wrong but did Sinner ever smashed a racket? Sure he didn't do it this time too, but you could see the anger and intent, but he managed to calm himself and stop it. Both Djokovic and Sinner played to win it, I think this was actually important match before the season end. For Djokovic to finally beat Sinner and try to figure him out and switch the momentum in h2h, for Sinner to continue his dominance and extend his win streak against Djokovic which could be crucial for end of the season and 2025.

That being said, I'm more than happy with Novak's career and his games against Alcaraz and Sinner. The man is entering his 38 and still is able to beat Alcaraz and be solid opponent for a man who virtually lost only to Alcaraz this year. Sinneraz are level above everyone right now, they have everything and they are young, and the guy who comes the closest to them is exactly Novak Djokovic.

He fought his battles, managed to get above 2 co-GOATs, played against them for years, decades, played against Next Gen, Lost Gen, New Gen and even managed to get so much wanted Olympic gold this year at 37 against Alcaraz after month of meniscus surgery. He can retire tomorrow and I'll be more than happy to call him the greatest of the greatest and enjoy amazing new rivalry of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, the young future all time greats or maybe even GOATs.

This event that big its GOAT defining...they have even pulled out the A-Team for on court interviews ANDREW CASTLE (reached 3rd round of Queens) and Anabel Croft. You just know this is a big deal

I cannot believe you replied in such length lol. Nadal v Alcaraz was comedy gold, literally neither even broke sweat.

Old players can play one great set and then quickly fade. I don't know today's match changed anything about the dynamics in Djokovic v Sinner match up.

You mean the Djokovic who won 3 majors last year and won Olympics , reached finals of Wimb, Shanghai and SF of AO is somehow old , when we want to discredit Sinner ??

Djokovic is trying his best don’t be fooled

I wouldn't read too much into this tournament although i definitely think Sinner will try 100% to beat Alcaraz in fianl , just to show he can.

I think Novak and Rafa will play it more like an exhibition and it will go to 3 sets and don't be surprised if Novak does not go all out, and lets Rafa retire with a win.

I wouldn't mind as let's Rafa go out with dignity and also he can never catch up h2h anyway.

Rafa wont be at even 10%, he inadvertently let the cat out the bag at the net with Alcaraz when he said 'that was an easy $1.5m'. Djokovic wont care either, it will resemble Federer v Nadal in South Africa a few years back albeit not as blatantly as i think they were miced up there.

Sinner struggled with his serve from second set tiebreaker, Novak on other hand sucked with his first serve and when he had chances he played safe tennis - massaging the ball instead going for clear winners. Novak is slow to move to right with his operated knee ,young generation using that weakness to maximum.

Often a fairly trollish thread still delivers great posts. I watched the match despite my misgivings as family wanted so and both fought hard.

P.S: IIRC Sinner dominated the three great points leading to the re-break and lost them due to poor decision-making and great reads and defence by Djokovic. Felt that the match was always on Sinner’s racket, despite the crushing tie-break!

P.P.S: Sinner broke two rackets in his whole life. I recently realised that he and Nadal share the almost unbelievably humility. Both also have a similar strange mix of firm convictions and self-doubt.

Djo lost again, and can't compete against even an equally tired Sinner. It was sporting of Sinner to let Djo have that second set for the exho though, just to keep it interesting. Probably felt bad for straight setting him the previous week. Alcaraz forgot to let Nadal get some shots for the exho though. lol.

Since This is exo, you can not take everything seriously apart from shoulder injury.

Maybe sinner tank 2nd set to keeps crowds entertained. Also consider how many matches sinner played in china, so he is little tired also

Not a metric of how important a tournament is. He never cried when he lost the WTF's final against Zverev. Do you honestly rank an Olympic gold ahead of WTFs?

Some players even rank it above Slams.

Some players even rank it above Slams.

Some players even rank it above slams now that Djokovic has the record.

if Djokovic didn't win the monte carlo masters everyone would be talking about how monte carlo is the best and most important tournament ever.

The only fans I can see overrated the Olympics for non sinister or gaslighting purposes would be Murray fans - because Murray is the best Olympian in tennis history. But saying it's above slams is gaslighting. There's less prize money, there's less ranking points, there's less prestige (a slam gets you into the HoF like it or not, OG doesn't unless you win it twice like Murray but even then he has slams to his name), there's less matches, this olympics there wasn't even a 5th set in the final format. I don't see how Olympics is considered above a masters - it's about equal, but even then back in the day some masters tournaments (and even Basel 500) played a 5th set in the final.

So, if it is above a slam, surely Djokovic has taken the game to new heights this season as he has won the most important event?????
