Sinner AO 2025 vs Djokovic AO 2011

Semi-Pro
The best version of Prime Djokovic ever at the AO against the new HC ATG

People forget how ridiculous was Prime Djokovic. The point against Berdych at 14 : 00 was quintessential Djokovic. You see how Oldovic while still very good is a shadow of his 2011 version. 2011 Djokovic was chasing balls that Oldovic now is just watching to go in front of him

I think it would be a tight 4-5 setters. Sinner is basically now a more powerful version of Djokovic himself. AO 2011 Djokovic would win by outgrinding him.

For sure, Federer AO 2011 - and even Murray AO 2011 - would fare better against Sinner than Mugrev. Sinner was just playing on his B-Level and Zverev wasn't able to generate a SINGLE BP

Sinners is the better tennis player no doubt but Djokovic has the greater stamina and physicality so wins in 5.

I like Sinner A LOT. Djokovic would still win though. 4 competitive sets imo. 75 64 36 64 smth along those lines.
Far more interesting would have been 2012 Djokovic or 2013 Djokovic vs 2025 Sinner

At the AO in 2011 Djokovic won his 2nd slam having not won one for 3 years. It wasn't clear at the time that he would necessarily get to 3 slams.
2011 Djokovic, at least between january and september ascended to heavens. No way Sinner is beating him . He could make it competitive for sure, but there aint no way Sinner upsets Djokovic

I think you're probably right, but we do need to wait until later in the year. What if Sinner matches Djokovic's 2011 record this year. My recollection is that Djokovic went 42-0 before losing the French Open semi to Federer.

42-0. That is impossible to match. Sinner is only good on clay. Not great unlike Djokovic or Fed

Trolling aside though, 2011 Djokovic in 3/4.
A well playing Djoko just thrives on the gamestyle that Sinner plays; powerful groundies with no variety.
Whilst I agree with you RE Djoker in 4 probably… doesn’t Sinner also literally thrive on facing that exact game style? It’s not like 2011 Djoker had a lot of variety either

At 2011 it was obvious hes gonna win a lot. Maybe not 24 lol. Sinner at the moment isnt guaranteed to win 10 slams, let alone 20.

Lot of nostalgia in this thread

Tennis constantly evolves . Sinner in straights and if he is in a benevolent mood in 4

Was it obvious at the time, or in hindsight? Going into the AO of 2011 he was not far off 24 years old with 1 slam title to his name that he'd won 3 years prior, in a win that had a hint of an # because Federer was ill at that tournament.

Sinner is better than 2011 Djokovic in literally all aspects. Maybe 2016 Djokovic would have a better chance

After AO 2011 i thought hes finally gonna breakthrough and win multiple slams. But at that time didnt imagined hes gonna win 24.

No lol.
Sinner gets in trouble against elite ballstrikers & movers, players who can change direction at will & take time away from him or move him all around the court with angles.
Djokovic's baseline game is tailor made for that, so is Rafa's and Roger's.

Sinner would bully that 05' backhand, poor matchup for Fed. I think Sinner 25' beats Fed 05' in 4 or 5
Roflmao no. Only one player was able to exploit Fed BH and that was Rafa on clay; and tbh he exploited everyone's BH, be it 1HBH or 2HBH.

If even Djoko, the best baseliner of all times couldn't exploit Fed's BH, Sinner has no chance. Fed would rob him off time, junkball him and make his juiced áss look like a noob. Rafa would do the same too, with his heavy topspin & angles as well as variety.

If he struggles against handling inconsistent Alcaraz's variety, imagine peak Roger's variety.

Sinner fans have lost their minds & need a big time humbling. Let's hope Alcaraz delivers one the next time he plays the doper Italian.

I partially agree. Remember how much trouble Nadal had with davydenko?
Sinner takes the ball extremely early and he would definitely have a shot against Rafa on hc and indoors

Sinner doesn't take the ball nearly as early as Davy or Djoko, and neither is he that good at changing directions on will.
He'd definitely beat Rafa indoors more often than not; but apart from that, he'd not have much success on mainstream HCs such as AO - USO & outdoor master's 1000s.

And of course, unlike Davydenko, he has a great serve

What about Safin 05? I do think Sinner beats him too, if I think he can beat that version of Safin, he beats the 05’ version of Federer as well

This Sinner who doesn't leave even crumbs to his current contemporaries on hard, would have been an opponent on par with both peak Djokovic and peak Federer, but there's a long way to go before beating them, and it's the usual question that will never have an answer because it can't rely on proof or counter-proof.

People continue to underestimate the movement and incredible balance of the Italian tennis player.
Zverev himself said in a conference that this Sinner is on par with the best Djokovic.

Having said that, for me Sinner is a player who plays with Djokovic's style, but more aggressive, but performing like Federer.
In terms of the percentage of games won on serve and return, Sinner's numbers in the last 12 months are much closer to those of Federer at his peak rather than Djokovic at his peak.

So many commentators have said the same during the match. One particular comment was - "never seen anyone defend the backhand corner as well as peak djokovic till today"

Then in post match interview zverev said the same thing that SInner is now equal to peak Novak. When Sinner was asked, he sort of confirmed it.

2025 Sinner without a doubt. He is taller than Djokovic, he runs faster, he hits harder, his shot placement is more precise, he is mentally stronger, etc.
Better in every aspect.
Even if it were 2008 Nadal on the other side and the surface was Parisian clay, Sinner would still win.

Talk about covering every base lol
