Sinner lost the match at the beginning of the 3rd set

The momentum was 100% on his side: he won a tight 2nd set and broke in the 1st game of the 3rd set easily, an ideal scenario. But then out of nowhere he was broken twice in a row after being 40-15 and 40-30 up, unacceptable. He should've won the match in straight sets: 6-4 7-6 6-3.

The player who doesn’t believe he should win a match gets tight when on the verge of victory - happened to Sinner up a break in the 3rd, during the pivotal 5-3 and 5-4 games in the fourth and then when Alcaraz served at 5-6 (including 15-30) in the fifth. Sinner had scars from losing Slam matches at the USO and FO previously plus being 0-4 to Alcaraz lately. I am sure it was also hard for him to believe he is better than Alcaraz on clay comparing their prior track records and the recent loss at Rome.

He played so careless there. Had a very routine forehand on 40-30 the next game to consolidate but he missed. Then the next serve game goes up 40-15 and makes nonsensical mistakes to gift another break. This really could have been a straight sets affair, but the first one that didn't believe was Sinner himself.

Sinner had plenty of chances after that. In the fourth set, with Sinner 2-1 up in sets, Alcaraz was down 3-5 serving at 0-40 and 3 championship points for Sinner. Sinner failed to take any of them, lost that game, and then failed to serve out the match. In the fifth set, having been a break down for most of that set, Sinner broke Alcaraz when Alcaraz was serving for the title, Sinner led 6-5, and when Alcaraz was serving at 5-6 and 15-30, Sinner had a chance. Sinner couldn't make it count. Alcaraz played ridiculously good in the fifth set tiebreak.

it is misleading
u can only say sinner lost the match coz he could take one out of the three cp points
vice versa, what if carlos lost after failure to serve for the match at the 5th set

it is difficult to say sinner lost at the beginning of the third set

Guess Sinner has some baggage due to past losses against Alcaraz.

On the other hand, can someone explain how Sinner keeps dominating Novak and loses to Alcaraz, but Alcaraz keeps losing to Novak(latest being the ao in straight sets)?

Sinner had the lead and the opportunity to take the match time and time again. Love 40 to win the match on Alcaraz's serve squandered and then two opportunities to serve it out both squandered. I think a fundamental doubt and consequent nerves ruined him. He was woefully unclutch unlike his opponent who rightfully took every advantage to get back in. Fortune favours the brave.

Sinners serve and FH let him down. Too low a percentage of 1st serves and the FH leaked errors and the signs were there in HIS SF v Djokovic that he was losing rhythm on both.
I assume its tension that causes those two shots to falter but had both kept the standards of 1st 2 sets he wins the match in straights

I kind of thought that as well. It was a slip up.

I actually thought Sinner was going to take that final set 7 to 5. As you say, many oppos were not capitalized upon.
