Sinner vs Altmaier - germanic battle in the streets of Paris.

Sinner has the first set and it is 44 in the 2nd, however ever what im waiting for is a heated discussion in german between the two players about why the atp has decreted that Altmaier should dress to make him shrink while Sinner is allowed to dress to make him look taller, when both players are 188cm.

Sinner is even allowed to walk like a big guy while Altmaier is supposed to move like a little school boy. Too conpensate for this Altmaier has been doing some very macho fist pumps! The ways of the atp are misterious indeed!

Ive been told that the atp has conceded Altmaier 5 macho fist pumps per set and ive counted 3 so far. The score is 66 and we have a tiebreaker in the 2nd. He will need one for the tiebreaker and one if he wins the set. If he accidentially uses all 5 during the set then he cant win the set as he wont have a fist pump to celebrate. So he has to be careful. Very exciting!

Trivial info

When I had my first spanish class in high school the teacher asked us if anyone could guess what "alto" means. Of course we all guessed old, since "alt" in german means old, and we had all had mandatory german since 7th grade. Cheeky teacher. "Alto" of course means tall in spanish. So Altmaier's surname means means "old mayor" not "tall mayor" ;)

And "the old mayor" takes the 2nd set on his 5th set point in the tiebreaker, and surprisingly he doesnt fist pump, probably becus he knows that all 5 were generous gifts from his germanic friend.

Because his home region South Tirol (Südtirol) was German (or Austrian, which is essentially also German) for a very long time in history, and German is still the main language there. It's in Italy now, but it's still very much like being in Germany/Austria there.
Mother tongue is german, born and raised in South Tyrol, Italy.
Interesting, I didn't know that.
It seems that Sinner is more German than Zverev.

He was certainly cautious and missed out on the fistpump after winning the set. :-D

Sinner takes the 3rd set 61, and I think that we should just take a minute to pay homage to Sinner's sublime technique on both fh and bh. Possibly the most effortless big hitter on tour!

Speaking of culture and ethnicity, it funny how the politicians of the world have decided that when it comes to sports only citizenship should matter, however when they decide to go to war, suddenly culture and ethnicity and religious afiliation matters alot.

Altmaier rips a big fh and then fist pumps. His 4th fistpump this set already. He has to keep his cool now, like the famous viking techno dancer.

33 in the 4th set and its getting heated.

Altmaier ripping some great ohbh.

Altmaier applauds a smooth half volley from Sinner. He is allowed to applaud Sinner becus they are both germanic......

The two players are now possibly collaborating to make it look like the 7th game is extra important. A long lived myth, especially among senior citizens, that refuses to go away.

Altmaier has far exceeded his alotted number of fistpumps so he can expect a heavy penalty from the atp.

But it pays off! He takes the mythical 7th game!

Sinner hits a high bouncing kicker to Altmaier's bh, thus telling him "we may both be germanic, but I grew up in the Alps dude, so the colab is over Chantal!".

And Sinner does break and can now serve for the match!

Match point for Sinner! And Danny boy hits the net and makes the passing shot! But another match point for Sinner........another egalité for Altmaier earned with the previous net ball. Avantage for Daniel, still earned with the net ball! And the net ball four points ago earns him the break as per atp unwritten rules! Lets see how much more it will earn him!? Altmaier holds and is guaranteed a tiebreaker. That net ball on match point is really paying off!

We have a tiebreaker in the 4th. It will be a shocker to me if that net ball on match point long ago will even earn him the set! In that case I will have to go read up on the unwritten rules of the atp.

We know that Sinner loves to give his opponents consecutive break points and then annul them. I remember an epic case of this against Brooksby.

Altmaier is alotted two set points by Sinner! Will he annul them? NO! Danny boy takes (aka receives) the 4th set and we're going the distance......

Altmeier's coach is former top 10, argentian of italian decent Alberto Mancini, who lives in Messi's home town of Rosario. Altmeier grew up a few hundred kilometres from where Boris Becker was born. Today is BBs mother's 88th birthday. May she live to be at least 100!

Sinner now has to break Altmeier to stay in the match which I expect he will.

It looks like Sinner's going to tank the match, 40-0 to Altmaier! 40-15! Double fault 40-30! Great point by Sinner 40-40! Avantage for Altmaier! Omg, Sinner rips unbelieable passing shot and its another deuce!

As per atp rules, I believe Sinner has saved enough match points to be permitted to take the match.

Avantage for Sinner and the crowd goes ballistic! Annulled by Altmaier! Another avantage for Sinner! Another deuce! Avantage for Sinner! Sinner extends the point for the sake of drama and its another egalité! Ue by Sinner and its another match point!

Sinner nods to Altmaier that he can take it which he does with an ace!

Altmaier gets the win of his carreer and if my german serves me well he rips a good one at the net to Sinner: "U go have some spaghetti meatballs and I will go have some spicy sauerkraut!". Well spoken Dannyboy!

Congratulations to Altmaier.

End of Transmission

The one-handed backhand is not dead in this tournament yet! (Don't even mention Tsitsipas)
