Sinner won the AO as soon as draw came out

Having Alcaraz Djokovic and Zverev in the same half was ultimately a huge gift to Sinner. It was always very possible he got Zverev in the final as Alcaraz and Djokovic were always likely to beat each other up to be softened up for Zverev, which is exactly how it played out.
Had Alcaraz beat Djokovic and then Zverev he would have been spent today and got beat as badly as Zverev did i would think in conditions that favour Sinner. Djokovic is more comfortable in the conditions but he too even fit would probably have been gassed as well given he is 37. Zverev is a slam final is a bye lets be honest.
Congratulations to Sinner, and you can only beat what is in front of you, but he did have a kind draw really so all these threads proclaiming him as a GOAT contender and perhaps better than Federer etc are very premature.
For what its worth i'll stick my neck out and say i think Alcaraz will now repeat the Channel Slam of last year. I think the USO may see Shelton win and i have for a while thought the new Big 3 would be Alcaraz Sinner and Shelton.

Nope. Still have to play the matches. Jarry wasn't an easy first round (as several people predicted), his body gave way at certain points, and he could have had a tougher task if some of the other seeds in his half were pulling their weight.

The same can be said of the gift the USTA gave Djokovic with the 2023 US Open draw.
It was quite scandalous!

The young Sinner is playing well. No doubt about it. He cannot be blamed for a pathetic field.

But his draw was a boring criminal cakewalk.

Can't recall a single match where Sinner was seriously tested.

Shelton? Rune? Please.

And then he had Zed in the Final. Zed had played well to reach the Final but everyone knows Zed is notorious for underperforming in Finals. The Final was never in doubt which is why nobody tuned in.

Zverev may be famous for his embarrassing performances in slam finals, but Sinner was the only one who swept him away in 3 sets, while Thiem and Alcaraz needed 5 sets after being down 2-0 and 2-1 respectively.

It would be interesting to report many comments from the eve that claimed Zverev would have been a threat to Sinner since it was a bad matchup for the Italian due to their history in h2h, but it would be a waste of time.

But even after the draw came out, didn't you continually repeat, strongly convinced, that this Australian Open would be won by Alcaraz?

So how can you now do historical revisionism with respect to what you were saying?

Zverev might be better on clay vs Sinner.

I did, and stand by what i was saying as i did not expect Djokovic to play as well as he did. So i thought a fresh Alcaraz would beat Zverev and Alcaraz in slam finals has huge aura. Djokovic was the wild card that threw me. If i had known he was in that form, id have picked Sinner.

Rune could have beaten him. Alcaraz might not have capitulated like Zeverev.

It likely Sinner wins, it not going to play out as predicted.

The draw wasn't good for Novak, but it didn't matter. Do you really think Novak was much of a factor here? Unless Sinner is seriously injured or something like that, I don't think Novak will ever beat the Italian at the AO.

For years, Novak has found no opposition at the AO. Now, he has two formidable opponents: Sinner and father time. Again, unless Sinner has a severe injury that forces him to withdraw or retire, or unless Alcaraz surprisingly beats Sinner, I don't see how can Novak win another AO title.

Sinner beat a well-rested Zverev in 3 sets. And last year he destroyed Novak facing 0 break points. Put Zverev in the SF and the result would've been the same: Sinner winner.

I am still curious how anyone can beat Sinner on a hard court

Since the 2023 Davis Cup, Sinner on hard courts is:
0-2 vs Alcaraz
63-1 vs everybody else

Alcaraz is inconsistent on this surface. But when he’s clicking on all 8 cylinders, he has the game to beat Sinner.

You gotta love matchups in tennis. They make the sport interesting.

We need a Sinner/Alcaraz final soon. And the more, the merrier.

To be fair I had the same theory. I thought it would be a sinner v Alcaraz final too. I did not expect Djokovic to play as well as he did against Carlos but in the process he eliminated Carlos and himself due to how physical the match was.

I think he is the only one capable of beating Sinner. Which is extraordinarily difficult task

TBH given how Novak was playing in the tournament it should have been obvious to us neither were winning the event as they were always going to take each other's legs and souls.
We need Novak to get back into the top 4 asap. Otherwise this is always going to spoil slams given we only have 3 top players in the mens game currently (Sinner Alcaraz and Novak).
