Sinner's Career Simply Cannot Withstand A WADA 2 Year Ban!

Wrong.

WADA has sought to ban Gasquet, but failed.

OMG, so Gasquet's "i kissed a woman with cocaine on her lips so i'm innocent" excuse was enough to defeat WADA?
That is BIZAARE!
Its his fault he kissed that woman anyway (a woman who probably didn't exist), and cocaine is commonly shared that way by addicts too.

The Sinner decision is anomalous with precedent. WADA took the case to CAS to decide the matter.

I hope Sinner wins as it will effectively gut doping regulations.

I fear that the decision will be reversed even if his ban is short.

i don’t know why everyones yapping about this..
do you not believe his story matches up or do you want anyone that fails a test suspended no matter what?

There was no chance of Sinner ever being the favourite at Roland Garros or Wimbledon, he's literally lost 6 sets in a row to Djokovic at Wimbledon, while Alcaraz has beaten Djokovic in TWO Wimbledon Finals!
And Sinner has won a total of ONE clay events in his career... and it was 2022 Umag.
"You cannot step in the same river twice." -Heraclitus

Things constantly change. And fast. Sinner hasn't faced Novak in over a year at W. If Novak were to face Sinner at W again, the result is far from a foregone conclusion, for both Novak and Sinner wouldn't the same players, Sinner has improved and Novak has gotten older (from 3 Slams in 2023 to 0 Slams in 2024).

I consider the Bortolotti case to be anomalous as well. If WADA appealed it to CAS then the Sinner affair would have been avoided.

WASA dropped the ball, as they say.

not sure how its different than this one? ^^

if you mean a case like halep the circumstances were completely different..

maybe i just don’t get it

Since Bortolotti is also an Italian, it may actually strengthen the WADA case…

or weaken it since the two “anomalies” show there was no special treatment for sinner.. the only special treatment going on is that WADA left bortolotti alone but not sinner.

I'm guessing that the new ITIA is a bit more sympathetic to all players who have tested positive ... and the Sinner case made confronting this divergence a priority for WADA.

It is not about Sinner, it is about equal treatment

Life is never equal in treatment

If Bill Gates commits a crime and you commit a crime then you will be given the max punishment but Gates will not be given, he is a centibillionaire and one of the bigshots who run the economy, people like him are important to keep the system up and running, you aren't.

Sameway, Sinner being banned for 2 years could disrupt the system but some unknown fella ranked 200 caught doping will be banned for life because he is insignificant anyway.

True equality is only possible in the court of God, not in the court of Man.

Bortolotti and Sinner are the first two cases where strict liability hasn't occasioned a ban of however short a length.

This direction has either to be affirmed or rejected by CAS and WADA made the sensible choice to appeal the Tribunal decision.

There is nothing that needs to be affirmed. The Sinner decision is clear and should stand as precedent going forward. All players will be given the same rights and provisional appeal that Sinner was given.

This lenient Sinner decision is good for players. Players are less likely to be penalized if substance found was no fault of their own. No more strict liability silliness.

The decision is very clear.

WADA does not need to stick their nose in it. WADA has clearly stated that the Sinner case warrants a 1 to 2 year ban.

WADA wants a harsh punishment. A harsher punishment is the entire basis of the WADA appeal.

Yet your theory is that WADA will be happy with a slap on the wrist and a short ban.

That makes no sense. WADA wants a long ban.

Anything less thana long ban will be embarrassing to WADA.

That could indeed be the silver lining here. The CAS will affirm the Tribunal decision and tell WADA to take a hike.

The ATP needs to divorce itself from WADA.

The ATP and the independent impartial Tribunal convened by the ITIA are perfectly capable of monitoring doping in the ATP.

WADA is redundant. A worthless bureaucracy. WADA needs to stay out of ATP affairs.

Maybe WADA can be involved in other corrupt sports. Cycling, swimming or whatever. But there is no need for WADA involvement in ATP affairs.

Readers should kindly note that WADA was recently established in 2000.

The ATP functioned just fine without WADA. In fact, many of the top players in the 1980s (Borg, Mac,Agassi) were taking cocaine.

There was no doping testing. And yet it was also the Golden Era of Tennis.

What does that tell us?

Cilic is the precedent that should have been followed. A ban followed by a reduction on appeal to only four months. This should be what Sinner gets when justice is served.

Cilic was tested positive only once, Sinner twice!

And unlike Sinner who blamed the positive test results were due to contamination or transfer etc, Cilic acknowledged the drug he took, he gave a detailed explanation on how he took it by mistake and he also supplied the evidence (the messages and emails) to support it. This is a big difference here, in my personal opinion. I tend to believe the cases like Cilic's because they don't tell bizarre or strange stories on how the drugs got into their system, they were very upfront "I took it!", all you need is to read their explanations and reach a conclusion whether you believe them or not, others like shared drink glass, contaminated, a kiss or a cut finger...they are too twisted, maybe it's true or maybe they are telling stories to cover it, only themselves know.

At this point, all I'm arguing is that the cases are somewhat similar. Cilic got four months and Sinner nothing. You make a good case for Sinner receiving more than four months.

They are not giving me the case files so I can't hazard an informed guess. I will say that the Tribunal's decision, which I did read, pretty much ran the line that Sinner was upfront with them.

Well, in the US jail terms are real severe if you get caught, if he gets caught then won't go scot free. He might go unpunished in most of Europe though where law is a joke and discretionary. However, I feel Bill gates will do everything to win the trial with the money he has at his disposal.

well no one good is coming along. Won’t help him in the slam race with Carlos though as he will her 8 shots to 0 for sinner. That will give Carlos free reign against bums like Fritz

In USA there are more guys like him (he is not the only centibillionaire... USA has the most billionaires) and thats the reason why he would have a small chance of being punished because others in the economy can absorb the impact from Bill Gates's fall if that happens, other continents would have him invincible because their economies there would be depending more on him. You come to India and see how powerful Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani are here, both are centibillionaires and they combined are like 6-7% of India's GDP.

No that's not reason, you need to research about judicial system in Europe and the US, there's a difference of light and day. In Europe many murderers who are not billionaires get light to no punishment even when they are poor. In the US laws are very stringnnet, you get caught you're screwed, you better don't get caught. Jail term of 80 years , 60 years ,120 years are very common in the US meanwhile it's a total joke in liberal Europe.

Just say no to WADA!

The Restoring Confidence in the World Anti-Doping Agency Act of 2024 would allow the ONDCP to withhold up to the full amount of membership dues to WADA.
The United States is the WADA’s greatest contributor, which makes this a powerful tool.
The bill authorizes ONDCP to use all available tools to ensure that WADA fully implements all governance reforms, including a proper conflict-of-interest policy, and that independent athletes from the United States and other democratic countries, or representatives of such athletes, have a decision making role on WADA’s Executive Committee and governing bodies.

In April, the New York Times reported that more than two dozen Chinese swimmers tested positive for Performance Enhancing Drugs one month before the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. The Chinese Anti-Doping Agency secretly cleared the swimmers of the doping. When WADA learned of these positive tests, it chose not to intervene or open up its own investigation. Over a dozen of these swimmers competed in the Olympic games, winning several medals, including gold.

Not really, a citizen has more rights in the US than Europe. In Europe anyone can beat you up and get a light jail sentence or even no sentence while in the US he will be jailed for long. Us has better free speech , something Europe doesn't .

USADA was letting off Americans and other dopers under the guise that they would become undercover agents in complete defiance of the rules. In other words, USADA sponsored dopers!

If they tested him 10 times in this week it would have been positive 10 times.

Players are randomly tested 365 days a year. On average, once every 8-10 days. At any time. With no advanced notice.

Sinner tested positive on two of these random tests 8 days apart in March.

The most unbearable thing is when a certain topic is approached with all this superficiality. Now in the eyes of many Sinner has become a doped cheat, it doesn't matter that Wada has appealed to contest the verdict that exonerates the athlete himself of lack of guilt and negligence. They think that Sinner should be punished for not having done everything necessary to prevent members of his staff from committing such naivety, they do not consider him to be someone who tried to benefit from illicit practices, otherwise they would have appealed a request for 4 year disqualification requesting the cancellation of all results obtained from the first positive test onwards. But all this is evidently ignored when he is painted as a scammer.

Sinner may have tried to use doping substances and is portrayed as a scammer, or he may have actually paid for the serious carelessness of his staff and yet he is still portrayed as a scammer.

This is how the world goes nowadays, the benefit of the doubt no longer has citizenship even if perhaps he were cleared of any responsibility, let alone if he were convicted. Part of his reputation is compromised regardless, justicialism no longer exists.

However, the Wada case has stirred something in the environment. The players have understood how fragile they can be. What happened to Sinner one day could happen to them too (Medvedev's statements docet) and then I want to see whoever is now throwing mud at Sinner what position they should take if one day the same thing were to happen to one of their favorites.
