Sloane Stephens Coaching Change

Tennis - 20 year old American Sloane Stephens is reportedly going to hire Michael Joyce, the former coach of Maria Sharapova, as her new coach. Joyce, a former player on the ATP Tour, was a member of Sharapova's coaching team for several years and was also her hitting partner.

Stephens is the top ranked player 20 and under in the world, having finished the season at no. 12. She reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open in January shocking Serena Williams and also did well at the other slams but under performed at regular tournaments on the WTA Tour,.

with the way Sloane is playing the past year she may need a change of scene. Joyce is good coaching girls, maybe he's the one to turn her around?!

Didn't think it would last long with Annacone after seeing him try to answer a question about Sloane's work ethic not long ago. He looked a little nauseated and mumbled something about how she likes to do "focused work" rather than a large volume of work.

In case it wasn't clear, the original post in this thread is from 11/2013, back before she had ultimately decided on Annacone. "worldtennis" bumped it in slightly confusing fashion. She appears to still be with Annacone.

Since the discussion is opened, though...if Sloane could magically steal any coach regardless of whether he has a job or not? Carlos Rodriguez. Carlos seems to be the guy for women who need even more mental support than they do technical skills support.

i do think Rodriquez would be a good choice for her, she needs a more physical and less cerebral coach than Annacone...
