It seems that the organizers of the Paris Bercy tourney have not fixed the surface from last year.

What is going on here? Paris used to be great.
I do wish they would stop messing with/slowing down court surfaces. If you or the players want slow HC, we have AO/WTF/Miami/IW.
Why ruin one of the only fast tournaments. The only others are Cincy and Dubai.

I thought after they fixed Shanghai this year, we would be having a good season for court speed. Nope.

I reckon this is what happened: Some of the top guys moaned and complained that Paris was too different to the WTF, and that it wasn't fair that they had to adjust. Thus, the organizers turned the court to mud to stop players from skipping Paris.

What do you think?

What makes you think they fixed Shanghai this year??

Paris is as fast as its always been. Why do people imagine things like this only because Djokovic won it last year.

He won it in 09, but regardless. Point provem. OP failed big time. Forgot Novak won it back then as well when it was supposedly much faster and unattainable ;)

Or, maybe it wasn't my intention to bash Novak as you seem to think?

He did win the WTF when it was fast, credit to him!
I think he won Paris when it was fast too.

I am complaining about the terrible court, not Novak.

It's a bit like a clay court with that bounce.

I looks like any spin GRABS 100% on that surface. You need to really flatten out the strokes to have any penetration. Berdych can do that, he has a serious chance to go to the final, or even grab the title!

But the bounce is a lot lower than clay IMO.

Are we watching that same tournament? How the hell you think that it is slow??? Maybe because you dont see flat hitters as DelPo. Go and watch it.

That's just what I've been doing.
I am watching another replay (Federer-Pouille) at the moment.

It is very slow, at least compared to how this tournament used to be.

Don't know if it is the camera angle (looks a bit too wide), but the court indeed looks pretty slow this year.
If I compare it to the year Soderling won, it definitely looks slower

Oh yeas you are bashing Novak. It is clear.
BTW how come Novak won WTF in 08 and Paris in 09 when he is terrible fast court player . Where were HC geniuses Nadal and Murray (and Federer for that matter) to stop him? No, no, courts must have been terribly slow back then too.

Don't be fooled by the relatively LOW bounce. It makes a faster game TACTIC possible. Watch the bounce on topspin rallies. It's most obvious that topspin makes the ball absolutely STOP from moving after the bounce.

OTOH, if you saw Berdych (or Pospisil) playing, you can see that most of their strokes penetrate through the court normally after the bounce. It's most probably because they hit flatter, with less spin.

So this court is slow/low, anybody with eyes can see it.

I'm not even talking about Djokovic!
Jesus Christ.
He is fine on fast courts, I have never said otherwise. He is just better on slow courts.
I know he won the WTF when it was fast. Good on him.
I am saying the court is slow and horrible. I am not talking about which players that benefits.
I know the slower courts disadvantage Federer, which I admittedly do not like, but I am not saying this because the courts advantage Novak.

I am talking about THE COURT. Not Novak. You have him on the brain clearly.

Slow courts = negative tennis IMO. Thus I would like them to be faster.
I don't think that would even affect Novak himself all that much, although it would make his competition (Federer) play better.

And the court is slower. You need your eyes checked as well as your mind.

Chico is paranoid. He thinks people care enough about hating Djokovic to do it in every statement.

Most of the posters like Djokovic chico. Relax

Paris is painfully slow, I haven't watched it live in years (sky sports) so can't compare it to previous years but for an indoor court it is crazy slow as is the WTF but that has been known for years.

The slowness is easily perceived by the naked eye.

One doesnt need a radar gun.

Shame they are killing the tournament. Tsonga may have done well.

Might as well play on clay.

Paris tends to change its speed. I remember 4 years ago, it was extremly fast. Federer himself said it was SO FAST. I remember he lost to Bennetau that year. Then it slowed down just a bit, that was the time Roger won it by beating Tsonga. And now it has gotten extremely slow.

Its one of the tournaments that changes its speedy almost every year. Don't know why they do this.

However, this "slowing" down all the surfaces trending seems to be changing over the last 2 years or so. There are courts that got a bit faster from the latter slowing changes. AO is one example, its not a blue clay anymore (even tho it is not as fast as when it was Rebound Ace)... Shangai got faster too, Cincy keeps his current high speed.

Of course this is not enough, there are a TON of courts that still needs adjustment in terms of speed, but I can see the last 2 years that this progressive slowness of the game didn't keep its pace, and on some particular courts, it stopped somewhat.

Wimbledon needs URGENTLY to change its grass, its amazing how slow it has gotten over the years when playing on sunny days. Roger won it 2012, yeah, but I remember that Wimbledon was full of rain and the grass was SO FAST due to humidity. That Wimby speed was like seeing water in a desert.

I do agree on the WTF comments, it gone way slower since 2012. Which I find it really annoying, maybe it annoys me more than any other court change.

Fed played sf and F indoors in 2012. Whilst the balls do fluff up when indoors (humidity) the court may get a bit slick. The biggest factor was that it was indoors and Fed could execute.

The courts are the same as last year and as 5 years ago. You people are imagining things.

No they aren't. The commentators have been talking about how they are slower and grittier this year. No excuses if Djokovic loses here because the courts are perfect for him.

They (the commentators) remarked on this for sure this year. They've talked about how it is slower and grittier due to putting more sand in the blue paint.

I really cannot tell how slow it is from the rallies, but I have never seen so many 2nd serves get abused before.

TSonga's second serve was being abused by Nishikori. Even some of Fed's second serves by the French guy yesterday. Fed's second rarely gets abused in other tournaments.

Ok, so local so called "experts" say that it is sooo slooow... Now look at Federer-Raonic stats: both have over 90% 1st serve points won. Is that slow??? Since when?

Roger's poor performance this week is further proof of the slow, clay-like surface they are using this year.

 At Chico bleating "all courts are the same", "Paris, WTF, Beijing are fast", "They don't change the speed" etc.
Nobody is buying it. Just give up.

Paris and the WTF have been slow and low bouncing for like the last 3 years now. Not a surprise. These are actually Federer's ideal conditions IMO, he just had an off day today.

Raonic DOES benefit from slow courts. His serving will be good on any court. On a fast court he would win very little exchanges as he is not quick enough.

The courts at Bercy are slow but the bounce is pretty high.More like Miami or Monte Carlo.Probably Federer`s ideal conditions are somewhere between Dubai,Cinci and Shanghai.
