Slow Courts

...and yet 15 years ago people were whinging that fast courts were making tennis boring because it was all about serve and volley.

Be careful what you wish for. This is far more interesting than the 3 shot points we used to be subjected to. Be thankful that you need more to your game than just a big serve nowadays... otherwise you might be subjected to an Isner - Karlovic final every week.

Absolutely. But anything the same becomes a bore. We want variety. And that is why its a pleasure to have players that have a varied/unpredictable element to their game. We need to find a balance between the two. Djoko-Murray matches for example are of course high quality - but I'm never enthralled because its always the same high quality monotonous hitting drab. I suspect many other fans feel the same? I don't know.

I'm sure that's all true but you were supposed to look at the link:)

Yeah, I should have done that! Whoops.

Anyway, modern tennis is still far superior to the S&V dirge of the 90's, and far superior to ping pong!

I agree that a mixture of styles would be better, and I do think that there is a bit more S&V being used now than there was a few years ago. The Murray vs Djokovic matches are impressive to watch from a quality of stroke perspective, but their styles serve to cancel each other out, and it always ends up being a slog fest, where a lot of points are eventually decided by a mistake rather than a moment of genius.

And considering racquet technology, the bots would be owning tennis rights now if not for the changes. I still remember a lot of non-hardcore fans of tennis saying they couldn't keep up with mens tennis, that's why they preferred watching the girls game.

Slowed courts also gave the chance for shorter people to compete at the highest level, thus tennis is becoming a global sport.

We only need a great American winning slams and Tennis would be at its' best.

The future of tennis depends on the future of tennis, Donald Young.

Then there are also the only excellent servers that many seem to seem like a bore too.
