Whilst on the BBC tennis boards, I was reminded about a match from 1994 that has to go down as one the worst capitulations in tennis history. Picture the scene. Jeremy Bates, journeyman pro and top 100 regular is playing his opening DC rubber on grass against a 17 year old Romanian ranked in the 700s. Bates quickly gets into the groove, bagels the youngster in the 1st set, takes the second 6-3 and soon finds himself with 3mp after romping to a 5-1 lead in the third set. All three mp are missed and before you know the young Romanian has stormed back to take the set on a tiebreak. He goes on to take the next two sets 6-2 6-2. Losing to a 17 year old ranked 600 places below you from 2 sets and 5-1 in the third with 3 mps is going to take some beating. Anyone got any other examples?
