So…by the Rules, Nadal is not allowed…

…To play at the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.

The rule states that the participant had to play Davis cup for the country he represents at the OG at least once within last two years prior to the event.

Rafa did not and Spain is eliminated from Davis Cup for this season.

As Rafa always said - rules must be respected and followed.

Will they, though?

Who cares, as OG is the least important of the Big Titles. Also, if Rafa wants to play he will whatever the rules say, which is fine with me.

But Rafa always stressed the importance of the rules. Will he play a hypocrite and play just because he is Rafa?
Regardless of the importance, Rules should be applied and followed

There are 2 vacanted places for former GS/Olympics champions so not see a problem.I am sure he will play if he is healthy and hope he does.Olympics at RG without Nadal will be far less interesting and entertaining. So if he is healthy he will play.
Can you show the rule that states that former Champs have automatic entry (2 spots)?

For some yes, for some maybe there are exceptions, we will see.
Common man do you really prefer OG at RG without Rafa than with Rafa.I am really big Novak fan but i am also tennis fan.Any normal tennis fan will want the best players to participate so great matches be played. Moreover Rafa is an icon at RG-one win vs him at the Final and Novak is immortal.

Sure but I remember how Rafa reacted last year and I don't mind not seeing him there.

Let the dude play.
So, why didn’t we get around other rules and let others play. But more importantly, will Rafa ignore the rules and play if they twist the rules for him after preaching the importance of the Rules in the past?

Let's see how he reacts when his participation is question.

Everyone knows the host country will give him a spot if he's healthy to play, why does this topic keep coming up? Scared Djokovic fans hoping?

And we both agree that was wrong and grave mistake. The best player in tournament history to not participate due to some stupid rule. That s why this mistake shouldn't be make again with the best player ever at RG.Furthermore i am sure Novak contrary to Rafa last year will want Rafa plays and if needed will say it publicly.

I again checked the rules and there is something concerning for Rafa.Yes he may take 1 of the 2 places reserves for GS/Olympic champion but he must comply with 2 conditions:
-be in top 400 of the rankings-really if he isn't even at Top 400 no point playing
-His country shouldn't used its quota of 4 players-thats more tricky.Considering the big number of good spanish players Rafa should hope that fewer than 4 spanish players enter singles event.

Rules are equal to everyone, but some are more equal than the others? So Novak had to play for the Serbia and Nadal doesn't have? Will this rule have the exception for everyone else or just Nadal?

He can apply for an exemption. Roger got one for Tokyo 2020 but didn’t end up playing. Sorry to disappoint you.

Rules, like records, were meant to be broken. Considering the greatness of his career and the fact that will be his last season on tour, he deserves the chance to play if he wants to.
