So about Jack Sock

He’s lost again. To an over glorified American talent. Played like a moron. It’s his millionth first round exit this year..

Fluke. Top 30 showman at best who won Paris. About done. Sad thing is if he cared more he could be at least a top 20 player for the next 5-6 years. Looking quite bad going into his two worst seasons, clay and grass. We could see him tumble well out of the top 50...

Escobedo isn't overglorified.

I think he can have a steady career unlike Harrison whom was overhyped big time. Escobedo has a nice sturdy game.

I figured Sock was injured with all these losses. Hope he turns it around soon, he can be very entertaining and isn't allergic to the net.

I don't think he's underrated in dubs, I think most people know he's a top guy when he decides to play.

His 1400 points from the tail end of the season should hold him up in the top 30 for a while, but when he doesn't defend them, he'll drop like a stone.

I like Sock, it's a shame. He's talented and entertaining, but has motivation issues. I guess a bit like Sloane Stephens.

He's too hyped about the prospect of playing with Savannah Guthrie next week. Gotta keep that energy level up.

It was luck of the draw that he won Paris, and got into year end.
If Federer and or Nadal had played Paris, it would not have happened.
He would have met Fed in the quarters.

Top 25 talent for sure, but no way a legitimate top 10, based on his game.

Kevin Anderson has probably reached his "ceiling" and career high rank at No. 8 I'd say.

Paris shouldn't be a Masters. Make it a 250.

Nadal did play Paris but withdrew from his quarter-final vs Krajinovic, the guy who would go on to meet and lose to Sock in the final.

If he is inside the top 10 than he is legit + not to mention that he was also top 8 + WTF + Master title. Luck is a subjective term which fades away in the long run. Sock earned his place and guys like Dimitrov, Isner, Del Potro failed to take advantage over the opening in the draw.

Was that the original pairing? I ask because that wasnt the pairing I recall

Quite a first round match though

Right? Should be good.

Don’t know if it was their original pairing. I know they are friendly, and I believe they’ve played doubles together at the Challengers.

Gives the appearance he prefers the camaraderie of team tennis (Davis Cup) and doubles at which he has just won another title. He’s had a good shot at singles but ultimately it isn’t for him and all that talk of playing less doubles to concentrate on singles is just that.

The answer is pretty clear with “What’s wrong with Jack Sock”, he’s not that good. The backhand is a giant liability and the guy clearly cannot last in long matches.

Thank you for telling it like it is. I am so tired of the talking heads pumping up the same people year after year and they amount to very little if nothing at all. Let's cheer Jack et al after they win a few majors and not before. Even a great season is not enough. In women's tennis Bouchard played great in 2104(?) making two SF and a F at the first three majors. Now she stinks and. has stunk since the late summer of 2014(?).

Nothing more scathing than an angsty, rambling reprimand from a 13 year old. Masters champion Jack Sock had a lot to learn from you and your life achievements, apparently.

His doubles play has taken a toll on him. Last year his results at Indian Wells where he lost in doubles in the first round but went deep in singles vs. Miami where the opposite happened is very telling. He is incredibly talented; but in terms of conditioning he has never reached his potential; his footwork gets sloppy in best of three sets (probably due to doubles). When I look at Tiafoe I am seeing another american at 20 who needs to improve his conditioning as his footwork is very inconsistent.

The one thing I am noticing, in terms of American tennis, some of the younger guys are far better at creating points with well rounded games beyond the baseline than the Querry, Sock, Isner generation with Sock being the exception.

It appears he just doesn't really care

He loses and its like... meh... whatever

I guess if your career goal is getting into the top 10 and winning a masters he did that. He could be better though.

A lot of the younger players have that easy money with no risk attitude. they get paid to show up and paid very well so they all seem to aim low when the pressure gets tough. They tend to have one or two tournaments a year they strive to do well in, then ride their "success" and collect cash for everything else. None have a champions attitude and drive.

Seriously. Why train really hard, suck up all you time with tennis, and worry about winning millions when you can make $250k for playing tennis well a few times a year, plus sponsorship money, and get free travel, food and parties all the rest of the year.

Players do go through a losing streak in all sports including tennis. For the the year; he doing average! Has the highs and now he in the lows! Just the way sports is!

This is what I've been saying to many folks I talk to in local tennis circles. The money is so good these days that it's easy for players of the Kyrgios and Sock caliber to live really well without having to dig deep match after match and tournament after tournament. While I'm all for riding my talent as far as it'll get me, I'm also about embracing the battle when I'm at the limits of my talent and now need to show some grit.

I love the sheep on Tennis Channel who at the beginning of every Grand Slam that Jack Sock is a contender for the title. Could Gimelstob or Annacone truly look us in the eyes and tell us that Jack really has the ability to win 7 best of 5 set matches? I cringe when its brought up. The same thing applies to when they bring up Maddison Keys, another one who really isn't that good.

Keys was in a GS final 6 months ago..she will win 1-2. Didn't know anyone was touting Sock to win one, that is not happening.

i was gonna say the same, escobedo looks solid.

but more to the point, have you seen sock's girlfriend? sock is obviously chronically exhausted from his conjugal duties. there was a reason the spartans trained and fought far from their wives.

How can you say singles is not for him when he’s reached top 10 of the world and won a m1000? That’s not something you can just call a fluke. He’s having a dip and just needs to find motivation again. There’s more money and fame to be earned in the singles category, it would be stupid to go for doubles. He’s too good for that. Besides, I think he himself said he puts singles first.

Apples and oranges. Nobody posting here is a professional tennis player, so the analogy is errant and irrelevant. If someone posting here is a world class attorney, do we compare him to Fed, who stopped attending school when he was 15?

No.

Great victory in IW partnering Isner to defeat Bryan bro’s in the final. Very entertaining final and Jack looks so much more relaxed in doubles.

They should keep this pairing up

Socks doubles skills + Isner's serve is a tough ass team to beat

They could win some majors. And hey, that was a 220k check for each of them which is more than twice as much as they have made in singles this year
