So i changed some buttcaps: 2 questions (foam & broken handle)

I don't like the new Biomimetic buttcaps, which are different than the old Dunlop buttcaps, so i decided to install some older caps on my 2 Bio 200s.

  1. One of the frames had some foam inside the handle, on one side only (see picture). It's the only one of all my 9 Dunlop 200s, from various lines, to have such a thing.

  • First question: why would one frame have foam and not the others? Aren't they all produced the same way? Is the manufacturer trying to adjust specs or something by doing that? That seems unlikely since such a small amount of foam can't change weight by much, i assume.

  • There is one of my old M-Fils which always had a loose buttcap, even though the staples were all very well secured. I understood why after removing the cap (see pictures):
    Broken handle 1
    Broken handle 2

  • Second question: Is this frame pretty much ruined? Any way to fix this?
Thanks.

Hi, I don't think you should throw that racquet away, it may take a lot of faffing but you can re-build it using something like a polymer glue (e.g. Araldite)... you'd need to layer it up bit by bit letting it dry than adding more until you've approx got the old shape, then hand-sand it down... you may only need to do the main side which has broke to give the butt-cap the stability.

A faff I know but its doable, there maybe someone else on here with a better idea than that.

1. Yes, the reaason is to bring the weight up to spec. It may not make a big diff, but it is enough to bring it into the weight range that is tolerated.

2. It can be fixed with a number of diff material. Find epoxy putty that is not brittle, for example.

same here amigo! i had mine broken at the top of the black bit. there was a huge crack and it had almost split. now i need to mold one myself as Nigeria has no pro shops.

You can try to get your hands on some pallets, remove the old foam, and see if they fit. (Hopefully someone here knows which pallets fit the Dunlop hairpin) I would guess Angell pallets would fit. I have had some crazy pallets fit hairpins that I didn't think would have worked. You just have to try (I guess it depends on how bad do you want to save that frame)
