So seriosuly ....who watched the US open final

Allmost everyone in my country woke up early to see the match who is subscribing Wowow (Network). He got beaten but so proud of Kei to make history.

I watched live. I was pulling for Nishikori. One got the feeling early on that once Cilic got a break of serve, each set was over. So, the question: are we looking at the next Djokovic or the next Safin?

I watched DRV, I thought it was good to see someone outside the big three play dominating tennis. Cilic looked like a bigger faster Del Po.

I watched the last few games, but I haven't been this disinterested in a USO final in years.

"Beaten" is an understatement. He was destroyed.

I watch a japanese kid playing in the final. the other guy was ready to go another 3 sets after it was all said and done. must be all that gatorade he's been drinking.

You sort of define "fair weather fan"

I love to watch the less heralded pros play. Murray -Djoker was such a snoozefest. I've seen Federer play a thousand times.

Match of the US Open was Nishikori-Wawrinka.

Nadal wanted to watch it but Uncle Toni turned TV off in the middle of the first set, saying
"Is not tennis, just big serve and aggressive shot-making, go put on sleeveless shirt & wrist 'cast' and hit forehands only, ok? We need more pics for the Facebook".

I was at work, but I DVRed it and watched it when I got home (even after having the result spoiled by a New York Times e-mail alert).

So the final would have been better tennis on sunday ? Pup
Not at all. It just means that, in my case, as big a tennis fan as I am, I still couldn’t have justified leaving work early just so I could watch the match “live”, particularly as Monday was a very, very busy day for me.

I watched. It was biblical. David versus Goliath, except this time David forgot to bring his slingshot.

I did and I was relatively excited for it. Very disappointing. I expected Kei to be out of gas for the QFs, let alone the finals, so it's understandable, but really poor show.

"With a match lacking tennis’s big names and beginning at 5 p.m. EDT on a Monday, there was little surprise that Marin Čilić’s straight-sets victory drew just a 1.9 overnight rating, down 32 percent from Rafael Nadal’s win over Novak Djokovic last year, reports Sports Business Daily. It was also less than half the 4.0 rating drawn by the women’s final between Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki, played on Sunday."

The matchup looked pretty boring so I didn't put in the effort to make time in order to watch the match.

I always record matches then carefully avoid finding out who won until watching. Can't stand the ads.

So the Monday timing had no effect on me.

If it had been close, I would have been very into it. But by the 2nd set the writing was on the wall. I had hoped for something a lot more competitive.

Saw bits of it whilst doing a few errands in the house.....Cilic on his game = not a great chance for Kei.

I love tennis, but it's the first time in well over 10 years that I didn't even watch the USO final. Hats off to Nishikori and Cilic for reaching their first slam final. I'll be brutally honest here, but I just couldn't justify wasting a few hours on a week day to watch 2 players I just don't care about, no offense to them. Based on the score and various opinions, it seems I didn't miss much, so that's it.

A whiff of a contradiction perhaps? ;) Nothing hypocritical about your post, however. Props for that.

Wow, even Caroline Wozniaki pulled in more viewers. Can't say I didn't see that coming. The final was not very entertaining. Let's face it, people want to watch the legends go at it. Whether that's good for tennis, I don't know.

I watched it seriously although occasionally I became less serious. Although not for long.
