So what exactly is going on with Nadal?

He came to Australia, played one exho match and immediately got injured, then looked like he doesn’t even want to be on the court at times during AO, like in his match against Norrie, and then when he drained against Tsitsipas: it’s hard to even call a choke, really, it was Kyrgios-like performance when he loses one point and stops to even try.

Then he withdrew from all the hard court tournaments. Some say that’s his way to focus on clay, but we know for sure that it’s tougher to play after months of being out from competitive rhythm. There was no good reasoning to not play at least Dubai. And now, one week before the clay season starts, there are no pics, videos or even verbal confirmation that he’s practicing.

What is going on? Nadal doesn’t want to play anymore and only wants to participate in Lavehh Crap with his best friend Rojah?

I think it's OK that he skips a lot of the hard court events as Djokovic is also not playing them and he's the main threat at RG. I think Nadal can be pretty confident that a few RG warm ups will be enough for the main event.

I was told miami open is played next week and not clay court tennis but Rafa will be fine for Monte carlo , I am expecting a really huge clay court season something like 2017 let's see what happens

His lower back problem seem like it is Real injury. because i have the same thing, when it happens it prohibit you from serving normal speed and power, and i see that happening with Nadal

Well OP, for a guy who develops some pretty elaborate theories about other players based on not much information at all, you seem to be really struggling to accept a very simple pattern of behaviour in your favourite player nearly every season for the last 15 years or so.

It was obvious Rafa wasn’t going to play any HC tournaments after the AO. Once Indian Wells was cancelled, there was no point in playing Miami. And playing Dubai? Come on, he hasn’t played it for years.

He’s nearly 35, get used to a much-reduced schedule from now on.
I get it. But he played 5 matches in almost half a year. That’s called retirement, not reduced schedule.

Why would he play Dubai? A 500 tournament on a very fast hardcourt in the middle of nothing. I would be surprised if he did play it.

Anyway, I've been saying it from last year that Nadal has no motivation to keep playing. He showed it by skipping USO - now THIS was indeed a strange decision. He is clearly tired of tennis. He is not like Djokovic for whom records are the meaning of life. Nadal is trying, but he is never going to die for it. Every time when he is not 100% ready he prefers to skip the tournament, he has been doing it since the beginning of his career.

Curious to see just how serious Djokovic is about stopping Nadal at RG or if he's sensible enough to realise that he needs to be aiming at Wimbledon and the USO.

LC biggest tourney in tennis. But Rafa is probably thinking as long as he gets a few matches before the FO he will be good.

Like @BeatlesFan said, once IW was cancelled again there’s no reason to play a single HC tourney in the U.S. of A. He hasn’t played Dubai in forever. And since the AO was pushed back 2 weeks so was everything else. Had he made the F in Miami for example he’d have like 2 days before MC started. Since he hasn’t been playing we haven’t been getting updates. Everyone who’s worried needs to chillax. It’s not like he’s Ol’ Rog or MurrayGOAT coming back after having been out for a year.

Not my fault if you can't accept the reality. Nadal is not going to die for another slam. And it's good. Better to lose than to win in an ugly Djokovic style. (like it happened in this AO)

Ugly beating Tiafoe-Fritz-Raonic-Zverev-Karatsev-Medvedev? All in form players.

- Rafa's back problem started before the exhibition event in Adelaide.
- He withdrew from the Rotterdam tournament because of his back problem.
- He didn't sign up for the Acapulco tournament this year.
- He was offered a wildcard into the Dubai tournament, but he declined the invitation due to his back problem.
- He withdrew from the Miami Masters because of his back problem.
- Kids (participating in an international junior tournament) took pictures with Rafa near clay courts adjacent to the indoor HC last week, but they didn't post any practice pictures. It was quite cold in Mallorca last week, it's possible he practiced indoors.

You are absolutely wrong.

This is the beginning of the end for Nadal. He will not be as successful as you all think on the clay this year.
Wrong. He has been dominating like always at the FO. The last few years he has struggled at first on clay, but that is because he usually has a long break and he needs matched to find his form.

But every year he finds his form and sleep walks through the FO.

What do you expect really? He'll be 35 in 2 months. Check out what Fed's schedule was in 2017-2018 when he was a comparable age. He skipped clay both years to give his body a rest. Obviously Nadal has had a much more physically demanding style of play than Roger and he's been on tour 18 years. Going forward, Nadal will probably play a schedule like this until he retires:

AO
MC
Barcelona
Rome
RG
Wimbledon
Canadian Open
USO
YEC

I think he may even play on clay in post-RG in tournaments like Hamburg and Gstaad. He's sitting on 86 career titles, if he plays almost exclusively on clay from now on, he could get to 100, which is a big deal.

You think he's going to skip Doha/Dubai/Acapulco/IW/Miami to rest up but play Hamburg to chase 100 titles? What?

I genuinely wonder what your definition of reality is. You sound like you had a bad DMT trip and never came back from it.

He knows Djokovic is gunning for the FO. It's all about preparation. That's why Fed lost W2008 to an inferior player, lack of prep. Same thing happened to Nadal at AO19, not that he was going to win but at least he shouldn't have been demolished. It's all about prep. Both Djokovic and Nadal are preparing for FO2021, should be a blockbuster.

Just because he'll win his upcoming RG QF 1,2,2 doesn't mean it's a walkover.
Nadal is done, no more Quarter finals for him, so I assume you mean Qualifying with QF, and yes there is a slight chance Nadal will win one of his Grand Slam qualifying matches in the future

Well for one thing he really should have at least 36 more majors if it was not for the injuries.
He should be ready for clay season.
Maybe worry a bit more if he loses Rome or The French Open.

Nadal won 14 sets in a row at the AO.
And he almost won the 15th set in a row, because in the 3rd set of the QF he didn't lose a point on serve until 5-6 40-0.
Nobody played a higher level of tennis than the Nadal-Tsitsipas quarter-final.
So the AO proved that Nadal wouldn't even drop a set at Roland Garros if he had a back injury.

This is probably the best form Nadal has ever been in heading into the clay season, based on that Tsitsipas match.
Nadal should wrap up the year-end-#1 by sweeping the clay.
We know Djokovic is no longer good enough to dominate the indoor season.....
And Nadal owns Canada, won it 5 times....
