So what exactly is going on with Nadal?

Nadal won 2 of the last 3 US Opens before covid.
And Nadal made Wimbledon SF 2018 (lost 10-8 5th Set to Djokovic), and 2019 (lost 1st Set tiebreaker to Federer, but won the 2nd Set 6-1).
Lots of opportunities for Nadal to reach his goal of 25 slams.

This is probably the best form Nadal has ever been in heading into the clay season, based on that Tsitsipas match.
Nadal should wrap up the year-end-#1 by sweeping the clay.
We know Djokovic is no longer good enough to dominate the indoor season.....
And Nadal owns Canada, won it 5 times....

AO2020: Djokovic wins the title, beating Thiem in 5 sets
NADALalot: Djokovic won't win AO21, we saw in the 20 final that he barely beat Thiem,.

AO2021: Nadal loses to Tsitsipas in QF
NADALalot: Nadal is in the form of his life, he'll win everything the rest of the year.

Nadal seems to have the total opposite take of Djokovic on the pandemic. He seems to find it very sobering and I don’t get the indication that he’s as focused on tennis as usual

Make no mistake about it - rafa and novak are both looking at one thing, roland garros, and their schedules reflect that. Novak will be extra motviated given what happened in last years final and the fact that time is running out for him to win another.

Wrong a lot! If you predict this then Novak will likely win RG

Nadal 2013, 2017 season says hi.

Which is why IMO Rafa can't be considered the Ultimate GOAT! His supposed "greatness" is so intermittant and spaced over years rather than weeks; hence not even being in the top 10 of players with cons. weeks at the the TOP! The clay percentages are so out of whack in comparison to his other results! Now in his waning years he's skipping HC events; WOW! Way to prove something! At least Djokovic has never missed a FO even at the worst of times! He takes his beatings like a man! :-D

The poster you quoted is weird. He will always maintain that Nadal is in the form of his life and unbeatable.

Raonic, Zverev and Medvedev were so in form that they lost to Koepfer (Raonic), Bublik (Zverev in his first match after AO) and Lajovic (Med in his first match after AO).

Losing to Novak means peak form. Novak simply too stronk.

Fed played the FO for 17 straight years. But when he skipped clay in 2017-18 when he was 35/36, many Nadal fans pilloried him for being “chicken.” Bizarre charge after 17 years of playing RG.

Nadal skipping HC events is to be expected at his age. It’s the prudent move and he’s earned that right after winning 20 slams.

Rafa has skipped HC events this year (after the AO) due to the back problem (that started during the pre-AO quarantine in Adelaide).

- Rafa's back problem started before the exhibition event in Adelaide.
- He withdrew from the Rotterdam tournament because of his back problem.
- He didn't sign up for the Acapulco tournament this year.
- He was offered a wildcard into the Dubai tournament, but he declined the invitation due to his back problem.
- He withdrew from the Miami Masters because of his back problem.
- Kids (participating in an international junior tournament) took pictures with Rafa near clay courts adjacent to the indoor HC last week, but they didn't post any practice pictures. It was quite cold in Mallorca last week, it's possible he practiced indoors.

Nothing out of the ordinary is going on with Nadal. Calm down youall! Bull knows exactly what he's doing, he wants #21 in 2021. He is putting everything in the one tournament he knows he will almost certainly get it. No need to be Einstein to guess which slam it is.

I'm one that doesn't really care why Rafa does what he does! Unfortunately for him, he rubbed me the wrong way from day one! If Novak gets no quarter, Rafa gets none so any excuses he makes for skipping a major is falling on deaf ears! Djokovic skipping Miami is nothing like it so I hope that isn't pointed to as meaning more than what he said after his many years on the tour and winning multiple titles! Rafa hasn't won Miami IIRC; close, but no cigar! Since Djokovic has a double "Gold Masters" crown, he's the only one that can say to himself, "I deserve the break!" :-D

He came to Australia, played one exho match and immediately got injured, then looked like he doesn’t even want to be on the court at times during AO, like in his match against Norrie, and then when he drained against Tsitsipas: it’s hard to even call a choke, really, it was Kyrgios-like performance when he loses one point and stops to even try.

Then he withdrew from all the hard court tournaments. Some say that’s his way to focus on clay, but we know for sure that it’s tougher to play after months of being out from competitive rhythm. There was no good reasoning to not play at least Dubai. And now, one week before the clay season starts, there are no pics, videos or even verbal confirmation that he’s practicing.

What is going on? Nadal doesn’t want to play anymore and only wants to participate in Lavehh Crap with his best friend Rojah?
He's gearing up for clay probably. Just like Thiem.
From the looks of it, no one else stands a chance on clay

Why would he play Dubai? A 500 tournament on a very fast hardcourt in the middle of nothing. I would be surprised if he did play it.

Anyway, I've been saying it from last year that Nadal has no motivation to keep playing. He showed it by skipping USO - now THIS was indeed a strange decision. He is clearly tired of tennis. He is not like Djokovic for whom records are the meaning of life. Nadal is trying, but he is never going to die for it. Every time when he is not 100% ready he prefers to skip the tournament, he has been doing it since the beginning of his career.
There can be only one!

It's just your imagination.

Was it our imagination in 2018 when Rafa WD mid-match of 2 HC majors? He obviously just put forth enough effort to make the QF & SF vs Cilic and Del Po respectively! Can you imagine him doing that in Paris? I don't think so! He'll kill himself to finish and we all know it! :-D

Nadal barely breaks a sweat on clay. The times he’s been pushed to the limit or burned himself out, he’s lost or gotten hurt (eg 2009 Djokovic trilogy, 2007 Hamburg, etc)
