She was fine when she broke into the scene afaik in 2014-2015. It's after she got all her fame and modelling contracts since 2015 that things taken a turn, personality wise and game wise

Yeh, about that. Bouchard and her family had a reputation for being, let's say, *hard to please*, and this dates back to before she had any level of international success.
Correct I listened to Reyes on Craig shapiros podcast and he was pretty adamant she was working very hard and success/ wins were just around the corner. In fact anyone that has actually had anything to do with her says she works very very hard and the 25 seconds it takes to post on intagram do not detract from her training.

The thread title would have been too long, so yes, I did have some fun with where I placed the ellipsis. That said, truly, it's nice seeing her having some success on the tour again. Most of the references I've seen about her the last couple years have been overly derisive. I don't expect her to be a Top 5 player again, but then again, she did that at age 20, and with all her (seeming) off-the-court success and options, it's nice that she's battling back.

But given Swiatek's scorelines (including a very tough first round draw) and already having success here last year as an 18 yo, I would expect Swiatek to win. When I saw #WAP trending on twitter for the first time I thought it was a movement for women empowerment #WomenArePowerful. Then I watched the vid and I was overpowered by its grossness and stupidity.
If I had to pick, I think Swiatek will win, but am rooting for Bouchard. In retrospect, I could have titled the thread something like "Bouchard Thru to the 3rd Round - Thoughts?", but I meant no offense. Swiatek may prove to be a great player, though I think Genie having success is good for the tour. I never had a problem with her attitude, her modeling, etc - what she does is her prerogative, and I've never heard her demean anybody or the game itself.Totally agree about the grossness and stupidity of that song. There have been plenty of hits in the past that had raunchy lyrics, but most of them at least had a catchy hook and some musicality to them. WAP has no musical value - just a basic trap beat and almost zero chord progression. It's completely degrading. I think it's only popular due to the over-the-top shock value.
As for the posts that were deleted, I guess my beef was that Bouchard has basically cultivated a sex symbol image outside of her tennis, which has been her main focus as her ranking got worse. Her fame today has more to do with her looks than her tennis in the past 5 years. It seems relevant, especially in a thread entitled "So, who had Eugenie Bouchard..." @RaulRamirez knew what he was doing there.
One of the posters (now deleted, so I don't know who) was asking why we were so "thirsty" with the comments and pictures. I do think that Bouchard is good looking and has a nice body. It was fun to post pics and made some stupid comments. However, from a personality standpoint, from what I've seen in videos, her attitude doesn't impress me. I doubt that I'd be attracted if I knew her. But that's a two-way street. I'm an older guy, married, and average looking. Although I'm successful, I don't have millions in the bank. So, Genie wouldn't be that impressed with me either.
To directly address the OP question, probably not many predicted that Bouchard was going to make it to the 3rd round. However, it's also not that surprising given that Genie is a former French Open semifinalist and had been playing pretty well on clay in the past month (making it to the finals of the tournament in Turkey a couple weeks ago). Her draw to this point was very good, and congrats to her on taking advantage of it. Świątek is her next opponent, who is a former French Open junior champion and a 4th rounder at the French last year. As such, Świątek is probably favored, but this is also a match that Bouchard could win.
I like comeback stories and I like how Bouchard recently expressed gratefulness to be where she is at right now. I'm not a member of the Genie Army, but I could see myself rooting for her if the attitude change and maturity is real.
You must’ve caught that podcast with the Reyes interview. Didn’t expect Reyes to be so thoughtful and articulate. Always figured he was more of a meathead.
