So YouTube TV just yanked Tennis Channel...

What does this mean ? Was the 'Tennis Channel' Channel on YouTube live streaming matches all this time for free ? I didn't know that...
Probably not, YouTube TV is a paid streaming service where you can get "TV" channels without getting cable. I don't have it, so I may be wrong about this.

I have Tennis TV, and I like it even in if there's no WTA or Majors. That's too bad, but for me it's the cheapest way to watch tennis "legally", and I don't get to watch much anyway. It's very convenient as it's supported on PC, Mac, Android, PS4, and XBone.

It's really strange to me that tennis is so inaccessible, I totally understand people who stream illegally, when illegal streams are more convenient than paid services. Who's going to pay for inconvenience?

I didn't know you could turn it off. Next you're going to tell me there's access to live stats? That would really seal it.

They used to give you a choice of how you wanted the match- with or without commentary. I loved without commentary. You could still get all the ambient sounds. I also learned a lot about the game just watching and using my existing knowledge to make my own mind up about what was happening. Great points were better, too- you could enjoy them in a normal way without someone screaming it was the most amazing thing ever seen.
I wish I could remember the exact way you could access that page.
I stopped subscribing two years ago when amazon prime started showing a lot of the events at half the price plus the USO.

I'm really suprised that the Tennis Channel streaming service doesn't have one package that with everything. I've been waiting for TC to become available here, but I'm not as keen now that you've explained its limitations.

I made the mistake of buying an annual subscription to Tennis Channel Everywhere in 2016. There was absolutely no content, just some highlight videos of some WTA events. I demanded a refund and this was their response:
"Thank you for contacting Tennis Channel Everywhere support.
All payments for subscription services are non-refundable, per the Terms of Service agreed to at the time of purchase:
You must pay all amounts accrued in your account, including applicable sales tax and shipping and handling charges, when due. All payments for Subscription Services are non-refundable.
Unfortunately we are not able to issue refund for your purchased subscription completed on 1/9/2016"

I disputed the charge with my credit card company, who thankfully issued me a refund.

I then ordered TennisTV for $99 per year and the content has been and continues to be great.

Didn't someone buy the rights to the ATP and WTA matches for this next year? Could have sworn I read that somewhere and was wondering what TC was going to be able to do. Maybe I think I read it. Anyone?

For Tennis TV, I did the subscription for the year and it has been a mixed bag. The TennisTV app on Apple TV sucks bad. I continually have to log back into my account, and have to quit some weird way compared to every other app. Also, I treid cancelling at the beginning of COVID and got the run-around for months of contacting them and was never able to get a refund processed. They kept referring back to them giving us basically another year free...of which several months was no tennis. I won't ever subscribe to them again. Just not worth the money.

As far as what's next for watching matches? No clue. You would think the USTA/ATP/WTA/ITF would all come up with something in all that cash that was free flowing around, but now they will be hard pressed to stay relevant overall. I am really enjoying the YouTube rec/junior/college matches and such people are throwing up and spend much more time with that. I feel much more connected to the content as well.

I blame this all on Tennis Channel ownership/leadership and their greed vs. what is reality related to the number of tennis viewers and appropriate pricing they charge to the content providers. In addition, TC+ is garbage and I really think they have rolled this out as a hedge when negotiating with the cable providers indicating they have the infrastructure already in place to offer live content to Tennis viewers should they not get the pricing they want from the content providers. In the meantime we needlessly pay for TC+ (Watch the automatic renewals as they get you on that) for zero content of any note and their menu of historical matches to watch is miniscule so they make $$$ from us along the way.

So now this morning I need to turn off YouTube which I only purchase to watch the tennis channel, switch to Fubo (as I can't find decent options for streaming that offers TC), and reconfigure all my TVs in my house for Fubo.

Moreover, Fubo costs more and I need to purchase their extra super duper package to get TC when we don't watch 99.99999% of the other stuff so we can watch TC.

I am lazy. Until I read this thread I hadn't realized Youtube TV had cut Tennis Channel, cause I auto delete those kinds of emails and I like to "not learn" new tech stuff on a daily basis. Fortunately I found out I can get Tennis Channel through my local utility's internet & streaming service for less than I was paying for simply their fiber optic internet service and Youtube TV. Just have to wait to get a Fire Stick delivered.

I have TC through DirectvNow (which is now AttNow). I think it's the 'go big' package. Cheaper than cable but like cable they keep raising the rates (even though my initial price is grandfathered forever since it was brand new service - $35 per month). My forever $35 is now like $60 lol (aka read the fine print).

We had DirectTV before we moved to Youtube.... What a bunch of slimy people!

They told us we needed to sign a 2 year agreement. The first year at one rate the second at a higher rate. Both were specified.

They then immediately started raising the rates. We told them fine then we will leave. They indicated we couldn't as we signed on for 2 years. We told them they changed the rate. They said it didn't mater... We went back and fourth in this manner as they raised and raised and raised the rates.

Not only read the fine print but guess at what it is they did not include in any print and can scam you on.

Watch the live scores and suffer anxiety attacks.

That's what we had to do before the tennis boom; check the newspapers, pray for a blurb or highlite on the local news, and wait for the latest issues of "Tennis Magazine" or "World Tennis Magazine!" I went the extra mile saving any Grand Prix booklets I could find to share! :sneaky:

I have no idea what this is about but through Roku you can download an app called Stirr TV and they have a channel called The T (Tennis Channel), but I just put it on and then checked The Tennis Channel through Fubo and they are showing different programs right now. And below is a link to a 2-year old article, but still and all I thought this might interest some people. Again, not claiming it’s the same as The Tennis Channel we all know and err, love (or not).

I remember those days. With only 3 US national broadcast channels tennis was a minor blip on the schedule a couple of times a year. Heck, it seems it is still a minor blip:)

Also a subscriber to TennisTV for the past two years, and never watch Tennis Channel except for French Open.

You kind of get spoiled by the multi-court options at some events, and you do not have to suffer through TC's agenda to push the narrative on the young Americans. Plus, at joint events like Cincinnati and Indian Wells, I can watch a good Stan Wawrinka or Gael Monfils match instead of Serena pummeling some unknown 19-year-old from Ecuador on TC and listening to TC talking heads drone on and on as though she is still in her prime.

@steveq81 , Does Tennis TV cover both ATP and WTA? I see that it does not cover WTA or the slams and other tourneys. So now my question is how can I watch ATP & WTA 250 - Slams? If it takes multiple services I would like to know which ones and I would like to avoid duplication:)

Also @steveq81 , even as an American I get peeved when more compelling non-American matches are featured on Tennis Channel in lieu of matches featuring Americans. I would think most tennis fans understand the international flavor of tennis. I would rather watch a Barty, Andreescu and Swiatek match vs any current American match except for maybe Kenin. I love a Su Wei Hsieh match for some reason. On the men's side I would rather watch almost any non-American match, doubles or singles. For Pete's Sake John Isner at #25 is the top American and except to watch him hit 2d serves I don't find his game visually compelling. I admire his focus, tenacity and conditioning to stay match relevant but come on....I would rather watch a rerurn of a Santoro match vs Isner live:)

I am approaching 70 as a hallmark birthday 4 yrs from now, I love watching good tennis on TV. Why is it so "hard" and expensive with all this gadgetry? I would pay to be able to go a "real" Tennis Channel where I could select old matches, current matches, both ATP and WTA, stories, lessons, whatever. It appears to do that right now I have to have multiple services, streams, cable, etc, etc, etc. Tennis as an entertainment venue has been chopped up into too many pieces.

Maybe Tennis Warehouse could consolidate this cornucopia of visual media tennis and make something coherent, comprehensive, entertaining and profitable. Heck, they seemed to have saved Prince. Maybe they could conceptual a package and sell the concept to some high rolling media company. I can't believe I have to toss my Roku device and buy a Fire Stick just to watch Tennis Channel next week.

I agree. I just signed up for ATT Now which I also am not a fan of...

Why?

Well it gave me the tennis channel and it also included my local fox sports network so I can watch local baseball, hockey, etc.

Fubu gave me the tennis channel but did not offer my local fox sports.

A majority of our TV watching is Tennis, Local Sports, News, along with an occasional movie rental.

None of the other options offered this.

In my case, ATT would cost me $93 per month to retain essentially the same channel lineup we’ve had w YTTV. Almost $30 more per month. Ouch.

Fubo tv would be similar to YTTV cost wise, but we would lose TNT, TBS, CNN, and I think our local ABC. Those aren’t necessarily deal breakers for me...but there’s other channels I’d rather lose.

Very interesting. Did not know that was a thing. It appears that “The T” is a new-ish sister channel of Tennis Channel. Does appear that the content is different between the 2 channels.

So now my question is how can I watch ATP & WTA 250 - Slams?

I love the multi-court option with TennisTV. I just pick the match I would like to see. Plus I like to see some of the obscure 250 events. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the 250 final with Tomic and Fognini. How else could you watch a tournament in Chengdu?

The grand slams are a problem since I cut the cable cord many years ago. I have managed to watch a lot of the matches on the ESPN app. I could stream all the matches on demand in a multi-court fashion on the ESPN app for a small fee for two weeks. But I have work and family preventing me from able to find time to watch.

The only criticism for streaming tennis is that you can tell who wins after the first set if the match is straight sets since the timeline at the bottom is shorter.

I never watch WTA events, so that is not an issue for me unless someone like Ana Kournikova or Ivanovic play again...

With much of the early 2021 pro tournament season up in the air, I’m leaning towards staying put with YTTV until it’s clear there will be some pro tennis that would otherwise be shown on TC. Then I’ll buy a month of Tennistv and try it out.

This whole thing is such a racket (heh). Remember when Congress was promising “a la carte tv?” Yeah, still here, holding my breath.

I see that Larry Ellison is 76, Donald Dell is 82, it appears that these two old timers may be beyond their prime to fix something that needs innovation, means and will. It looks like tennis fans will be slaves to a future of incoherence, incompetence and irrelevance.

Check out #4:
That sounds to me like just shows, not live matches. I may end up paying for Tennis TV in January.

The key thing is #1. It indicates that with the tennis channel ap one needs to have a previous cable plan in order to watch the tennis channel. This is an obvious point of confusion which again people fall for and think they will be able to watch live streaming.

That is not the case unless one has already subscribed to a cable provider that has the tennis channel in it's package already (i.e. you have paid a cable provider like Comcast, ATT, DirectTV, etc. that has the Tennis Channel in it's package.).

So it’s been a little over a year. For now, I’m still with YTTV and tennis tv. But that could change in the not too distant future…

In this year alone, YTTV has had at least 2 disputes with major content providers (nbc and Disney). In both cases, the contracts ran out and YTTV dropped coverage of those stations for a few days. Eventually a deal was reached in both cases, and coverage resumed. While I am aware these sort of disputes happen all the time, and are not limited to streaming service providers…what went on, and what was said by the various factions…has not helped to strengthen my faith in YTTV.

I’m leaning toward switching to (or at least trying) Directv Stream (formerly att now). Those of you who have it, how is it?

I have Directv Stream and like it. I was hesitant as we were former Satelite DirectTV users and those guys are a scam and a half. We had switched from the dish to Youtube which was fine although the picture quality was not great until they dumped Tennis Channel. We then switched to the DirectTV Stream and the picture quality is way better than Youtube TV. I think there is less channel selection but 95% of the time we are watching sports or news anyway.

Having dealt with these guys in the past I suspect they will start inching up their prices and we will need to look elsewhere but for now it is working great.

DS-TV is ok! I don't watch a lot of Network TV or news anymore preferring to be entertained by APP You Tube videos for the most part! As a "Senior," I've refused to get caught up in new programming; sticking to old faves like "Law & Order: SVU" & "Blue Bloods" along with Football, Tennis, Figure Skating, and Basketball! :cautious::rolleyes::happydevil:

AT&T is awful. They ruined DTV. But not sure there are any great alternatives.

I'm missing WGN and NFL channels! :p :-D:rolleyes::happydevil::giggle:

I didn't watch WGN but I am an NFL fan and my team is on tomorrow and can't watch them as it is on the NFL network. If we weren't going through a pandemic right now I would probably head to the bar and convince them to switch to the game. My son is home from college so maybe he will have some trick so I can watch.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I did notice nfl network is missing from DSTV’s lineup. It does appear I may be able to watch some of those games on Amazon Prime, though?

Big selling points with DSTV for me are having tennis channel and YES network (which, I had when I started out with yttv - before they lost their soul, if they had one to begin with).

Problem with a switch to DSTV is I’d be paying nearly $40 more than I’m already paying per month now (64.99 for yttv plus tennis tv (roughly $10 per month). Ouch! I tell my wife that would still be less than cable tv through Spectrum. But still…$40 more a month seems a rather steep increase. To top it off, DSTV rates are supposedly going up in January. Yay.

Fubo is (apparently) once again an option - in terms of carrying TC. But that introduces a new set of problems (most notably no turner broadcasting channels - tnt, tbs, cnn, etc.). Also would lose the local abc channel (not sure how much I care tbh). And Fubo doesn’t offer yes network (nor does any other streaming service besides DSTV these days).

Cut the cord they said. Yeah well, here I am, right back where I started…trading horses. Sick of it.

I've not tried Fubo, but last year I subscribed to Sling Orange to get Tennis Channel. For the majors (with the exception of the French), get the sling package with ESPN. Then you will have access to ESPN3 online, and have great variety of the majors matches. At least that was last year. Each year things seem to change, so what worked one year, may not work the next. I did like YTTV when they started - good price. But eventually they dropped the TC, and prices kept increasing. They just kept adding more and more worthless channels, ...and charging for them.

Recently I subscribed to TennisTV for men's events for a couple months. But they don't carry the majors, nor any women's matches. But they are cheap, and you can come and go by the month.

If you don't have cable, it sure is difficult to find complete, consistent tennis watching in the US. It's very frustrating.

Use IPTV. You can watch almost every channel available on this planet, including Tennis Channel. There are thousands of channels available.

I subscribe for like 19 US Dollar a month and then play the M3U Plus streaming network that was provided by using VLC Media Player (free software for PC and Android) which provides me with a list of all channels around the world.

So basically you get all the satellite channels from every country in the world. Each country will have like hundreds and hundreds of channels...

You can also use the search function to avoid browsing through the long list of channels.

Example of screenshots of the channel list:

Exactly and is Fubo the one where they have the two color options/plans and one color has half the channels one would want and the other has the other half so in the end you need to pay for both and the rate goes up?

I seem to recall one of them was that way.

That’s Sling with the 2 color options/plans.

I posted earlier in the thread - I have Directv Stream (and have had it since whatever it was called at the beginning). The plan that includes TC has plenty of channels (but yeah no NFL channel, they used to) and it has been very reliable, good picture quality etc.

Looks like $90 a month starting in January...so much for saving a bunch of money by cutting the cord.

We regret the inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your membership.

This is too rich! The brazenness :-D

Just another subscription to cancel...looks like I'll be saving bundles in 2022

Yeah, sick of reading that kind of BS. I’d pay more - if I could avoid that nonsense every couple months.

@guanzishou IPTV has been intriguing to me. Not to be insulting but…is it legal? How reliable is it?

I have no idea if it's legal or not. It's the first time for me to use it.

It's quite reliable. I've watched the Mubadala matches with no glitches. I also watched other tennis channels from other countries.
