Sock and a warm body (80th ranked Nebraskan Jackson Withrow) beat the number 2 seeds, Cabal and Farah. If they can beat the #2 seed, they can win the tournament. Sock doesn't have anything to prove in doubles after winning USO and Wimbledon and WTF, but maybe he wants to win a career doubles slam with Australia and French. Clearly he is still committed to playing doubles, even after winning all the big titles.

Sock's singles career isn't doing as well. He is too out of shape to win any matches longer than three sets. He is 2-14 in matches over 3 sets since 2016. Sock can probably rack up enough points to stay in top 100 but otherwise he's not going to win any titles until he loses 10+ pounds, and we all know how hard it is to lose weight.

So considering these two facts - Sock is still committed to doubles and Sock most likely won't lose weight and get in shape - does that mean he's already a doubles specialist?

Doubles specialist in denial.

He could "burn the ships" and say he's focusing only on singles, no doubles until his singles is on track, but he's not doing that. It'll be interesting to see if he plays challenger tournaments or goes for qualifying + doubles.

He's 2-14 in his last uh, 16 matches longer than 3 sets. He can't win long matches which means he won't get out of the second round of a grand slam. He either loses weight or becomes a doubles specialist. He's the John Daly of tennis.
