Tennis socks

I was wondering which socks are good to play tennis in? Please include the name brand and type.

I use these really thick, padded socks from Target. They have a gold stripe across the toes, I dont know the brand tho.

"Gold Toe?"--their socks are quite nice. I still have never been able to bring myself to throwing down $13 for a pair of the Thorlos, since I know that if I like them it would cost a fortune to buy several pairs.

I've been wearing Nike tennis socks lately and I like them. Some of the Adidas tennis socks are very good also. :D

i've been using nike socks for the past 2 years and they are great....ankle/crew, both are durable and no holes since i bought them

i see all these fancy socks, some advertising super cotton or drifit...the best are those which are like 75-80% cotton and the rest is mixed polyester/spandex/etc...

unless your feet sweat like crazy cotton is the best because it helps your skin breathe

I use Gold Toe cotton in two pair of my tennis shoes, but I also have a pair of Reebok Match Points which are just a tiny bit snug and use my cycling socks (Pearl Izumi or DeFeet....super thin) in them with no problems.

it depends if you like thick or thin socks, i tried a lot of socks before and my personal favorites are the euros (not too thick, not too thin, just enough cushioning for me), thorlos are good too, if you get their level 3 which is the thickest one make sure you try them on with your tennis shoes, you might have to go up in size if you like the level 3, personally i like the thorlos level 2, again for me just enough cushioning, i might try their level 3 once i get new shoes, i might go up a 1/2 size in my shoes if i want to use their thickest socks, hope this helps.

I would rather thinner socks since I have a wide foot and the shoes I wear are tight enough. For some reason the socks I wear feel hot and seem to slide inside the shoes. I have been wearing Wal-Mart socks (can't think of the name...they have a star symbol). They were not cheapy socks either.

I see, so the socks made of material other than cotton are not good for sweaty feet. That may be the problem. I don't have sweaty feet, just hot and since I bought these sport socks my feet feel hot. So the every day ankle length Nike socks you and BP wear are good?

The Nike Power Crew socks which are 70% cotton have been working for me. Very comfy.

The problem with most all synthetic socks (e.g., Thorlos, etc.) is that they slide around too much inside the my shoes.

Euro is my favorite but I can only find them at TW and they are not cheap. These socks are lightweight, thin and very comfortable. They also have an elastic arch support.

I've been wearing a thin Adidas running sock meant to wick away moisture, then over top just a regular ol' tube sock for extra padding. I was worried they might rub against each other or something, but it's been good.

They don't move around in your shoes?

nope. and they're cheap. i think $6 for 3 pairs. i use them for running too. they are also moisture wicking. there are a few different ones but i make sure to get the thinest ones because my feet get hot and sweaty. C9 is my favourite athletic clothing brand, it's the best bang for your buck :)

your feet probably feel hot since you might be wearing socks made mostly out of synthetic material....material worn by your feet is different than your shirt and shorts since dri-fit polyester shirts and shorts fit rather loose on you, or at least their is air circulating...for socks, there's no breathing room, so cotton is the best option because cotton breathes

i personally wear nike ankle socks, not the "no-shows" but the standard ankle socks....in colder weather i wear the crew socks...i bought a few packs of each back in 2005 and have been wearing them ever since, and they've been washed nearly every week...no holes or excessive wear

Surprised no one else wears 2 pairs of socks... Shoe feels like it is a glove, incredible cushioning, and, unbeleivably enough, it breathes better than 1 pair. I think it has to do with the second sock increasing the distance between your foot and the shoe surface, which can't really breathe well. Or it just absorbs more sweat.

I can easily play 5 hours without any foot pain while wearing 2 pairs. Works better than any aftermarket insole I've tried.

And it's slightly easier on the socks, so they last a while longer.

These are 92% cotton, 8% polyester/spandex BTW, champion brand from Costco. Comes in Crew(thinner) or midcalf.

Makes sense...since I have had the sock issue since I switced socks. I guess the plain old cottons work the best. I will try a few suggestions on this post and hopefully come to an end to my sock issues.

I usually wear either Under Armour or Nike. Under Armour makes really comfortable socks. Try them, although they are a bit expensive.

I recently ordered a few pairs of Feetures Light quarter socks from here on TW. They're great if you like a thin, light, breathable sock. There's no lumpy toe seam and they don't move around, which is sometimes a problem with other socks.

I wear two pairs of socks. Black Nike Socks on the outside (midcut), and some sock liners (that you guy at a hiking/backpacking store like GanderMountain) on the inside.

The sockliners help me to reduce the amount of blisters I might get on a hot day.

I wear always 2 pairs of cotton socks, newer had blisters. Didn't try cotton inside and some "poly" outside. Anybody tried this combination?

I will be shopping for 2-3 pairs of socks for tennis this weekend. I may go with Nike or Thorlo...not sure yet. Adidas may come into play depending on what it is made of.

I have a couple of thoughts... The first is a vote against Thorlos.

Thorlos seem to have a pretty good reputation around here. Most everyone seems to think they are pretty amazing. They are just basically incredibly thick socks which cost about $12 a pair.

I think they are a huge waste of money. Besides the fact that they feel like crap (your feet can squish around inside your shoe inside the shock, makes your feet feel like they are falling "asleep" all the time), make your shoes fit weird, and are not real durable, there is no need to be spending that much money on socks. If a thick sock really catches your eye, there are comparable socks that you can find at sporting good stores which seem just as good, if not more durable, for around $10 for two pairs.

This leads me to another issue... If you're considering different socks because of the fit of your shoes, you're probably looking in the wrong place. Get shoes that fit properly and have the appropriate amount of cushioning. Don't expect any increase in cushioning from socks.

I still can't believe I spent $12 on tennis socks.

With that said, if you want to spend that much, just get some nice Adidas or Nike tennis socks. That's my recommendation.
