best socks for cushioned heel. I'll go with Thorlo for one pair of socks.

If using two pairs of socks which ones would you use?

I have some adidas and some Nike dri-fit socks. but need a second pair of socks for cushion.
I was thinking of Huso.

Without cushion the left heel hurts on the outside. Got it checked and it's not plantar fascitis.

Possibly achilles tendonitis. but no pains with cushioned socks. It only happens with one thin pair.

Uniqlo socks are best imo. No need for 2.
They also last a long time.
But...hard to find. Stock up when you find them

I realize that with the prices for good socks, these days, you can't just keep randomly trying different
combinations.

But rather than two socks, I would suggest a good/inexpensive insole replacement plus the Thorlos.

The funny part is: maybe 2 months after AO 2020 Nishi's socks and wristbands were still available and were on sale. People are so much invested in brand ambassadors that basically the same product is neglected, just because the player is not as famous. Bought 20 pairs. The quality is absolutely comparable with the Lacoste socks that cost 3-4 times what I paid.

Awesome. I have about 30-40 pairs stocked up and will get more next time around.
FYI, the Fed socks felt different. Nishikori ones are nice and thick, Federers felt like more cotton?
I liked old Novaks everything uniqlo - the fit was great, the socks were thick and nice.

I noticed that too. I bought the Fed socks (AO2020) expecting them to be like his socks from RG 2019, but they were thinner and somewhat less fluffy, a bit like a smooth yarn, as opposed to his RG 2019 socks. Nishi's were exactly like Fed's from RG 2019. I don't have anything form Novak's collections from back then, so I can't really compare, but the reviews of those who have tried them are overwhelmingly positive from what I have seen.

I double up on the nike dri-fit 'plus cushion' crew socks when I wear 2 pairs most of the time. If going for different brands, then I'd say you can use an ultralight darn tough inner sock (or possibly ultralight+cushion) and then something mid thickness over it.

when do you know it's time to replace the insoles? how many court hours?
a good pair of insoles is half the cost of the shoes. While wearing two socks; maybe Nike dri-fit and a thin inner sock could do the trick.
can't wear two pair of socks with Thorlos unless you play in very cold weather.

Well, the Dr. Sholl's athletic inserts are fairly inexpensive and
will do the job unless your feet have special needs- then just
toss them out with the shoes.

I have tried the two sock method- mainly to adjust for a looser pair of shoes
But sometimes two socks can create thickness and pressure where not needed.
Overall, I prefer just one sock if the shoe fits properly.

Lately, I have been wearing Nike Dri-fit- the kind that are marked "left" and "right".
They, and other similar socks, seem to be padded in the right places and stretchy
where needed- and I think my feet like not having to share.

Eventually, I think, you will need to find what works best for you- your shoes- your feet and
style of play. Once you do, then stick with that combination until yoy buy different shoes.

Years ago I found a bunch of cashmere socks at one of those discount stores
For 5 dollars a pair. I kept a pair and gave the rest away as Christmas
"stocking stuffers".
Then, after wearing mine, I regretted giving any away and went back to see
if there were any more (no there were not).
Then I washed mine and threw it in the dryer and it shrunk to the size of a walnut.

Anyway, I was thinking, a cashmere sock as a comfortable "undersock" might
be worth a try.

Then I looked at the prices (as much as 60 or 70 dollars) and nearly gave up the idea-
until I found a likely pair for 15 dollars.

It might be worth a try- but they need to be hand washed (now I know).

People would say, "I never saw you play as well as you have today."
And you might reply, "I know, it's my socks."

Cashmere socks will wear out extremely fast if used for a sport activity, especially a cheap (for cashmere) variety. Their fine and airy fibres will get smashed and ripped and the socks will go "bald" very soon. Also, they will accumulate the sweat and it will cause a sliding between them and the outer sock.

If you want to try something like that find an expedition level merino socks and give it a go (but they will be very warm for playing in them).

Well, yes, that's what I was afraid of.

Still, I am tempted...

My current sock is "Heatuff 12 Pairs Men's Cotton Performance Athletic Crew Extra Heavy Cushion Socks". They are $25 for a dozen. Previous to that I wore Nike Dri-Fit cushioned socks and these are a significant upgrade. I don't see the need to spend $10-$35 for a pair of socks, although I might try the Solinco ones if they ever go on sale!

I've started wearing 2 pairs of socks, which I hear is what most pro's do as well. Lately I have been trying a short/ankle sock under a crew sock and with my large/narrow foot immediately felt shoes fit better without having to aggressively lace up. Make sure you have the right size socks, I'm a M14 and need to ensure an XL crew sock for this setup or toes can feel a bit cramped.

Overall I really like this for comfort and playability, don't like the use of socks and need to do more laundry ;)

Gym, laundry, tan?

Btw, ever have one pr slip down over the other, cramping your toes?

Baseball as well. I find synthetic blends are normally better than cotton in this situation. Personally I rather find one thick sock versus two, but I also rather not be in pain. Basically a good way to add a little extra cushion and help fill out a shoe to reduce movement. You might have to change shoe size, sock sizes, sock material and the like to get it to work.
