haha...can't take the credit though...saw it from someone else...
Yeah yeah keep believing it.
Fact is Fed was lucky that Nadal was injured last year. I would say that is the singlemost lucky event in his life.
Nadal's FO 08 clay performence is the best I've ever seen.
Soderling played like crap in the first set, so the answer is NO.

That is Ilie Nastase in 1973, winning it without losing a set, and by doing it by Serve and Volleying. No comparison in terms of artistry and beauty.
I was gonna reply to your post but then cracked up reading your sig. It rocks. But you forgot one important thing. Fed had mono for a good portion of the 08' season resulting in him losing many important matches and his number one ranking. So, in a sense you could say Nadal was lucky in 08'. ;-)
But hey, that's sports...

Ridiculous statement. Nadal alone has played better on clay numerous times. This match is so overrated it's not even funny, Federer played a good first set and was average after that (his level of play in the Madrid final against Nadal was better). Soderling played very well and put a lot of pressure on Federer, but made way too many UE (49W/42UE) for this to be considered the best performance on clay.
It's ridiculous to claim Federer was completely outplayed by Soderling; in the crucial third set Roger was the better player but completely gifted Robin his service game at 5-5 with ugly errors after being 40-15 up. He repeated this feat at 2-0 in the fourth, and from that moment on Soderling dominated. He deserves to get a lot of credit and played a good match but this thread is total exaggeration in my opinion.
Not so fast. Still Soderling is only a dangerman, not a real winner. There were some really great performances of clay in modern times, like the Nadal final win at RG in 2008, or Kuertens wins over Ferrero. Kuerten was called Picasso by Kafelnikov. Fedrer is a step slower now, than a couple of years ago. You could note that in his USO match with Delpo, now again. Earlier in his career, Federer with a better movement and anticipation, was able to handle the power of a big man and turn it against the aggressor.
So he won US open 08 with Mono? Or did the mono subside for US open only to resurface at Oz 09?

Andy Murray: "Am I gonna get my umbrella here or is nobody going to bother?"
I think it was pretty much hidden, much like how Nadals knee injuries were hidden during the whole duration of the clay court season, even though he dominated it much like every other year until the FO.
My my..what a strange illness this Mono appears to be.
McEnroe said Soderling was hitting the hardest ground strokes in the history of tennis. Pretty high praise.

I wouldn't know, since I've never had it but I'll take your word for it.
I think you are a bit biased by your love for Federer. It's ok, but it shows a little.
