Soderling defeat worse than Rosol: Rafa.

In an interview with Diario de Mallorca, Rafael Nadal says he first hurt his knee this season at Indian Wells in March, then it got worse when he was forced to retire against Andy Murray in Miami. He then competed with discomfort all the way until he stopped playing after Wimbledon.

Nadal said he took a risk in the semifinals of Roland Garros, where he posted a quick win despite playing with inflammation in his knee, but that he was solely focused on winning his seventh title there. He also said he was not surprised Lukas Rosol upset him in the second round of Wimbledon, because for the two weeks prior he was only able to train one hour a day, without running. “It was very bad, and I was playing with the knee asleep,” he said. “You always think you can do it, but it was not possible even though I did my best.”

Nadal added that his defeat to Rosol could not be compared to when Robin Soderling upset him at the 2009 French Open.

“There is no point of comparison,” he said. “Both have in common that my knee was bad, but I could compete at Roland Garros. In Wimbledon, no. The defeat to Rosol as was a death foretold for me.”

The 11-time Grand Slam champion added that being forced to pull out of the Olympic Games in London was worst feeling he has ever had when pulling out of an event. Nadal also pulled out of Wimbledon in 2009, where he would have been defending his title.

The 26-year-old has said that he is planning to play the 2016 Olympics in Rio, but has not thought beyond that.

Not as "classy" as Fed 2010 after being hammered by Berdych at Wimbledon QF. "I have a leg injury" which leg? "uhhh.....umm......the left one".

Don't compare Roger to Rafa. Roger comes out and says "I shouldn't have lost, this is why....I played ok but he did x,y,z right".

Rafa on the other hand says "No I did my best.." and then a week later says I was injured the entire time, just a FYI.

They both have large ego's but Federer accepts loss easier than Nadal.

I'd say Federer really did have a leg injury, nothing suggests he didn't.

Rafael has always been fine and healthy and there is nothing wrong with his limbs.

He was just being outplayed by players such as Ljubicic, Soderling, Del Potro, Rosol.

Yeah shame on Nadal for being honest about injury. He should never talk about injuries. He should be quiet so 'the talk tennis ban theory' makes sense.

The difference between Federer and Nadal is that when Federer says he's injured, he's actually injured. Nadal uses this paethetic excuse every single time he loses.

For the toughest, grittiest warrior to ever step foot on a tennis court he appears to display many characteristic aspects of being a lil bytch, don't you think?

Nadal can tell Soderling is a better player than Rosol.

Notice how the cyrbaby also threw in an excuse for his loss to Federer at Indian Wells here too?

Federer beat him plain and simple that day.

The guy can play great tennis, I have no idea why he talks like a surrender monkey - I almost wonder if he isn't French. :p

1. If you start playing in a match, you are fit to play

2. You can both be injured and be fit to play by starting the match. It doesn't make the victory/loss any more/less legitimate.

My favorite tennis player excuse for losing was Serena Williams when she lost to Henin at the USO 2007:

"She just kept making lucky shots."

****s hate of course hearing Rafa was injured in both those tournaments. We all know why also.

And you know this how?. Oh yeah, you don't.

So he was hurt in IW but decided to push himself to the max at Miami and then went full blast in the clay court season? Wow.

Just goes how dedicated he is to the clay, which is why he is the clay court GOAT and will never be surpassed.

You didn't get the sarcasm. He is obviously making stuff up.. Not all of it, but a good part of it. Even if he wants to do all the clay stuff, he didn't have to play Miami or Halle.

He was hurt at IW 2012 and yet he decided to play on the slowest hard court on tour, Miami the very next week. That was the best part

Yes but the real question is, can a player be 100% and be injured at the same time?

Yes, that is why his "story" makes zilch sense to anybody with even a modicum of logic.

It doesn't take a criminal mastermind to know that someone is lying when he uses the same excuse every time he loses, yet moves like a rabbit. I wouldn't expect such a biased Nadal fan such as yourself to have evidence proving wrong, anyway.

"I couldn't move at Wimbledon at all" - this, especially, was hilarious
