Love it when you squash a 6'5" 185lbs.er down to 5'7" and 185lbs. ... :):)
Funny how the tall guys just have the wierdest motions and still cream the ball. Guess a wingspan around 7' PLUS doesn't hurt.

I was thinking the same thing. Weird trophy pose.

his knees are splayed outward like a curtsey(sp). extreme bowing but more like sitting on a bar stool position not limbo position thus he could acheive a greater chest angle.does not land much into the court means not much foward direction of energy. if he would fix these reference points his serve would be better:)

Just goes to show that there is more than one way to skin a cat, he is one of the biggest servers in the game...:)

You don't need great, controlled, textbook technique when you're 6'5", or scraping the roofs at 6'10".
Your leverage alone gives you great rackethead speed, you got the angle, and the court is tiny.
If you want good technique, look more towards the smaller players, like Hewitt, for it. Or the stiffs like Smith and Korda, and Martin.
Guys huge or superathletic don't need to play by the rules. Common folk have to rid themselves of anomalies, hitches, and flaws to serve well.

Yeah, right!
And I'm 5'8".
Sodeling next to Federer towers over Fed. Fed is 6'1". 2" diff don't tower.
Soderline is just above Safin height.
And on Wilson's player specs, just last year, they listed Serena at 130 lbs........like when she was 11 years old. Now upped to 150...in her dreams, more likely 180.

2 to 3 inches is a big difference. Look at Sampras and Ivanisevic. Goran has 3 inches on him but looks much taller. Soderling is definitely not 6 foot 5 though.

I'd say Soderling is about the same height as Goran (6'4''), though much more powerfully built.

Like the format. Would be nice to see others, specially the abbreviated servers (Nasquet, Monfils, ARod, etc.)

Pure height is important, for sure, but for big serves, long arms and wingspan is much more important than any pure height measurement can indicate.
I"m 5'11", barely that on wingspan, so can reach up 7'4" flat footed and stretched. Some of my buddies 6' tall can reach just over 8'3" flat footed. That's ELEVEN inches higher, while being only ONE inch taller.
Longer is more leverage, as anyone who's tried the longer racket knows.

Could not have said it better myself. SErena is 180, and growing by the day. So big and fat, I can use her as my goal as a fast fat mover.
