Soderling's performance in 2009

Gets more astounding every year that Nadal adds to his GS tally...remember he beat a younger, peak level Nadal at RG in 4 sets. No one has come close to beating Rafa at near his best since

I agree, legend of Söderling who beat both Federer and Nadal in back-to-back RG tournaments, beat defending champs, and still did not win RG unfortunately.

Nadal played better today than he did in 2009. And he was near his best in 2013 when Djokovic came extremely close to beating him.

Soderling was red hot that day. Would have beaten anyone in history.
I just watched the match again a few months ago. Nadal was a shell of himself in that match.

And even at that, if a few key points had gone his way, he still would have won the match.

You should rewatch it (not just the highlights).

Losing when injured doesn't mean much though. Rafa should have never played that event but he was still young and unwise. I'm glad he learned his lesson.

It should be fairly definitive Novak's 2015 straight set victory counts for nothing.

During Nadal's 14 healthy tournament appearances, only one man beat him.

Soderling somehow failed in the finals.I think that has also to do with pressure at that stage, even though Fed and especially Nadal played good tennis in those finals.

You realize when a better player is playing better than another, that losing player is always going to LOOK worse than when they are winning and playing better than someone else?

No way, no how is Nadal 2017-2020 better than his 2006-2014 form. It's the pathetic competition.

Nadal was injured. Prove to that is he didn't go to Wimbledon the following month, when he was the defending champion back then (and won WB 2010 as well, so he was peak in grass also)
