Soft arm friendly poly string that still plays direct / crisp

Any recommendations ? Multis and gut is no option for me. Is there any soft arm friendly string out there that does not play mushy even at low tension ? I like a controlled, direct stringbed response. Thanks for your input.

Yes, Weisscannon Silverstring 17. It’s got a wonderful combo of being crisp, direct, controlled while yielding a soft string bed. Other alternative would be Tourna Big Hitter Silver 17 (not Tour) and Topspin Cyberflash. However, Silverstring is vastly superior to both of the other two and retains tension at least 30% longer. Also, Silverstring is at it’s best when strung under 47 lbs.

I have a few here which I consider, Silverstring I tried in the past but i broke it after 4hs, not durable enough for me:

Weiss Cannon Scorpion (tried it in the past for a short time, maybe I should try again..)
MSV Swift
Kirschbaum Pro Tour Control
Signum Pro Outbreak

Anyone with input on those ? Thanks

Well that sucks, I wouldn’t recommend Silverstring 16 as it’s not as good as 17 so I’m out of suggestions. Good luck in your search!

@Stonefield I would give Tour Hex 123 a try. I would not call it "soft" per say, but it is definitely not a stiff string and I have found it easy on the arm. It holds tension exceptionally well and also maintains its playability durability very well. Give it a try, I am curious to see what you think of it and how it performs for you.

I second Mayami Tour Hex, very nice string and didn’t find it uncomfortable at all. A few others I would try:

Grapplesnake Tour Sniper - not that soft, but still very comfortable especially in the low to mid 40’s.

Oehms ALU Pearl Rough - I don’t feel it is mushy at all and very comfortable. Best value out there imo.

It's even softer with Big Spin mains.

YTEX Quadro Twist or Volkl Cyclone Tour 16 gauge. Both are shaped poly strings.

EDIT: QT comes in black and white, CT comes in red and black.

@Torps Here you go

Can you post up a chart for Tour hex 1.23, polytour fire, rpm power blue and Tecnifibre razor code blue in 1.25mm? All an are supposed to be pretty arm friendly I’m wondering how they compare. Thanks!

Will also second OEHMS Alu Pearl Rough

Lynx tour feels nice at lower(42-46) tensions and stays crisp and direct even at 42. Trick is to string it lower off the start.

That's really key for me. I like to string low (40-43) but some stings just haven't worked for me at those tensions. Ytek Quadro Twist was terrible - no grip and no performance (but very comfortable) and Volkl V-Square was grippy but unpredictable. Volkl Cyclone Tour 17 was okay but nothing special - at that tension range for me. On the other hand, Yonex PolyTour Pro did work well at 40lbs in both the 16L and 17g. It wasn't the most spin-friendly or powerful but the overall performance was solid.

Highly recommend Tier One Firewire Boost 17G. Lively and crisp feel, great tension maintenance, comfortable on the arm. I had wrist pain after playing with Alu Power and Hyper-G, but have not experienced any with Firewire Boost. I string at 45lbs and feel that's just about right for me.

Would not recommend 18G though. Plays very mushy to me, completely different from 17G.

wish tour hex was available in 40ft packs, only reels right now it appears. What other mayami strings are worth trying, Big Spin?

I'm a fan of solinco tour bite. It's a bit softer than confidential but still direct/crisp. Yonex PTP I've been testing and it can be a bit mushy at lower tensions. Lynx tour isnt bad (similar to tour bite) but maybe a touch softer and from what people have told me, it alters swing weight a lot.

Haha yeah Lynx tour is great, but does increase swingweight by about 5grams in my experience

What gauge and tensions have you liked tour bite? Yes I agree on PTP, great for those first few sessions but then becomes too mushy as it looses tension. The Solinco strings are rated very high in tension holding

btw I'm not sure I'd rate either Lynx Tour or Tour Bite as "arm-friendly" - more on the medium stiff side for polys. If you like Tour Bite and want something softer, Tour Bite soft is great.

1.20mm/17g in a 98 frame that has a fairly tight 16x19 pattern: tension from 50lbs to 52 lbs depending on the temperature. I play with a healthy swing weight and full strokes, this type of string has paired well. I can really take a full swing and get power and control. I have issues with PTP sometimes I can't take full cuts and ball can sail. I have noticed at colder temps it can become a bit stiff and dead and this is where strings like PTP are better. Temps are getting back into the 50s-70s now so have to adjust some.

As mentioned above - tour bite prob not the most arm friendly, it's more towards the direct and crisp side of things. Oddly though, it has a lot of pop and is quite lively off the stringbed without being mushy. Very unique properties...seems to be holding tension well.

My opinion based in experience.

Quadrotwist plays far from crisp. Ive used almost a full reel of it. For the first 15-20 mins it plays stiffish but not crisp. After an hour or so it feels a little springy but plays very controlled and spinny but cannot be described as direct either.

Maybe I have been lucky, it has not been too bad to string so far in my opinion. Are you using reels or sets?
Grabbed a reel from Amazon and am gonna grab another. Degree of difficulty I'm comparing to something like Red Devil, which is pretty easy to work with. (I only string for myself, so I don't have a huge wealth of experience to draw from.)

I have strung much much worse :)

I haven’t found ALU Pearl Rough tough to string at all. There are a lot worse out there.

Different strings for different arms. The APR is being used by a few who have had elbow issues in the past, and they are playing it with no issues. I do not think the APR is as performant as the Tour Hex.
Yeah tour hex actually hurt my arm a bit. APR didn't and the reviews of Tour Hex wanted me to try it again but hard to justify when I can get APR for half the price and restring as needed

APR is an excellent string - zero complaints from the players using it now.

How does APR 1.23 compare to 1.25? There's a good deal on the 1.23 right now, but I think I'd prefer the 1.25

Just tried Volkl Cyclone 18 (Not the Tour) on my my mains with Syn Gut 17 crosses. My wife and I thought it played pretty soft. It does bite pretty well and provides a good amount of ball-pocketing with power. We do string low at 44 lbs. We'll have to keep bumping up the tension to see if we truly believe in it's comfort. Not bad for $8/pack.

I usually used Luxilon Alu 115 on my mains but it does cause some discomfort, especially if you play with big hitters or have a long session.

It was my wife's first time trying poly (hybrid) in a very long time. She was hitting awesome with it.

People really think Tour Bite and alu pearl rough are soft, arm friendly strings??
Arm friendly poly also "controlled and direct stringbed response" that "plays crisp" without being mushy. You're going to sacrifice a bit of one for the other. Go into "soft" category and you're going to get mashed potatoes. Direct/crisp/controlled response w/o mushy - say no to your arm friendly poly YPTP, Ghostwire, Cream, ect. Tour bite is middle ground, never had arm pain. It's not quite KFC crispy like confidential or RPM/4G IMO.

@Dansan Have you ever played 4G Soft - if so, where / how would you classify it?

I didn't mean that relative to Tour Bite - it's crisp, but I find Tour Bite Soft, especially at thinner gauges, to be a good crisp more arm friendly poly. Don't know about Pearl Rough since I've never tried it.
