Softer hybrid than FireWire Boost?

I have been using this setup in 18g for the last year plus. It’s awesome. Love everything about it.

However, I have a shoulder that will eventually need some work, (bone spur and separated AC joint). Until I get around to having that worked on, what is a comparable setup that I could go with to ease some of the pain on the shoulder?

Is that possible? Any recommendations?

Thank you.

Have you considered using syn.gut as crosses instead of Ghostwire?

I have been using on my main frame (PK 5G) Gosen OGSM in 18g with Firewire 18g on the mains for the last couple of months with great results. I have strung 10+ frames with that setup for others too, I have a reel of Firewire 18g and Ghostwire 19g as well.

HGS / GW is softer than FW / GW. I use both HGS 1.25m / GW 1.25mm and FW 1.25mm / GW 1.22mm.

Since summer is now here for us, I am switching back to FW/GW. the softer HGS / GW setup is better in cooler weather but FireWire holds tension better than HGS and it lasts longer between stringjobs. I've strung my own frames since 2009 and lately HGS/GW is dying too quickly.

Square and triangular (like firewire) strings are quite stiff. So, I would replace firewire with a softer one, like hyper g soft (as mentioned above) or tier one black knight. I presonally use the signum pro experience/ghostwire combo and I am very satisfied.

Black Knight is the only poly I have not tried from them. Thanks.

On avg between the two setups, how much time to get you before restringing? What tension do you typically use?

I am currently testing T1 Ghostwire 16/Volkl V-Square 16 at 50#. About 3 hours in. It is softer than T1 Firewire Boost 16. My elbow has been happy! Great spin potential, moderate power, medium pocketing / feel.

The HGS 1.25mm / GW 1.22mm at 55M/53X dies around 12-15 hours where the same gauge / same tension of FW/GW last around 20-25 hours, depending on how much singles I play.

The Pure Aero+ (27.5 inch) at 342 grams strung (12 oz) is a powerful frame. I prefer softer polys in the mid 50s and have never had TE with a PA in five years of using it. The PA's 16x/9 pattern is super open and polys in the 40s don't work well for me.

If you are looking for polys cross softer than GW, your options are limited:
1) PP's Black Force of similar or slightly thinner gauge
2) PP's Red Devil of similar or thinner gauge
3) Poly Star Energy
4) ISOSpeed Cream

You can cross these with HGS or TourBite Soft.

1,2 will be cheapest but softest. You will have higher tension loss.

Cheers.

@g4driver. What tension do you use for your Luxilon Gut Mains/ Ghostwire Crosses setup in your Pure Aero+

Thanks

Recently tried Black Knight and Ghostwire in a hybrid at 43lbs. To me it felt boardy and just as stiff as the FireWire Boost.

On to the next.

Black Knight plays much smoother from the 2nd/3rd hitting sessions tbh. Def has a boardy start

have you tried fullbed PolyTourPro? that feels nice from the start, only issue with that is a big initial tension drop after first session, but stabilizes after that, so maybe start it off at a little higher tension than yourusual

Good to know, thanks. I’ve hit with it for roughly 3 hours so maybe next time out it’ll feel better.

I used PTP in my old EZONE but have yet to try in my current Pro HD. I did enjoy it and honestly should give it a try again.

Thanks.

Proline Evolution is one to give it a try, it is softer on its feel than Black Knight, has better tension maintenance than PTP and works well as a cross with a shaped main too.

Grapplesnake Alpha plays very soft. Love it in a full bed in ‘some rackets’, its too soft for others.

I also have used FW mains with Cream and yeah, that is softer than GW.
