Solinco Outlast anyone?

I first was a huge fan of Solinco Tourbite, but when I switched to gut mains the TB's edges cut through the gut too quickly. I then tried Solinco Revolution as a cross with the firmer (relative to VS) Klip Legend nat gut and find it the best set up I've played so far. But Revolution still has subtle edges. It doesn't cut through Klip very fast but I suspected it would eat up the less durable VS. So today I tried Solinco Outlast as a cross with VS. (all 17g). Outlast is a completely smooth poly marketed for "playability and durability" by Solinco. (the other two both include power in their tags).

I really liked the set up, surprisingly it felt quite like the Klip/Revolution set-up. Surprising because the Klip is usually a much firmer feeling string than VS. I felt like I was getting great bite and spin. I could really feel the ball on the strings. Pretty much the same things I've been saying about the Klip/Revolution. I think the smooth slippery Outlast really slides nicely on the VS though, and I don't expect it to saw through it too fast.

The thing I'm most curious about is how long the fresh feel lasts compared to the other Solinco polys, and how long it takes to cut the gut mains.

Solinco strings are the top of the heap as far as I'm concerned. I only hear people talking about TB, increasingly so. But people searching for their next favorite poly should try out these others. Outlast seems like it would be a good alternative to SPPP or WC SS for those looking for a softer smooth poly for instance.

Anyone else have thoughts on Outlast?

I should mention, I string up the gut mains at 53 and whatever poly crosses at 45

i like Outlast. it's a good all around string. nothing about it stands out; it does everything very good. but Iontec works better for me and it's priced lower.

Outlast is really soft and has good playability..but I prefer shaped polys as I use them in the mains...stick with it if you like it

Outlast is great! I used to use full tour bite at 57lbs now Outlast at 54lbs. There's no downside to these strings. Volleys well, Groundstrokes well, and durability is better than tour bite.

Outlast is good. SPPP is even cheaper.

check again, here at TW SPPP is $8.90 and Outlast is $8. I agree they are similar strings but SPPP is a terrible fit with the super flexy EXO3 Tour, even as just a cross with nat gut. So far, Outlast is feeling great with this frame.

a follow up: I've kept one frame strung with VS/Outlast, but for a couple of weeks I've been playing the Klip/Co-focus strung frame more. But I revisited this one the last couple of days, strung on 1/21, a month later it still feels great. This set-up has the most dwell time of any of the gut/poly hybrids I've tried. If I commit to hitting the ball I can be really aggressive with this set-up and have great control. I'm impressed that it still feels so good after a month. True to its name!

another follow-up....

I've completely settled into Outlast as my favorite cross with gut. It really takes to mid 40's tension will which is where I like it. It's not a high power gut so balls don't fly, and at the lower tension you can really feel the ball on the stringbed. It seems the ideal string set-up for clay court tennis as the variety of shots and sustaining longer ralleys all come easier.

What I've found really seperates Outlast from all other polys I've used as a cross is that it feels very consistant from day one though 20 or 30 hours. I never experiance the transition of fresh to dying and then dying to dead. I had one frame strung up with about 27 hrs on it and going back and forth between it and a frame with only 6 or 7 hours on it I couldn't feel much if any difference.

I'm using 17g at 47lbs. In the main I am using Wilson NG 17g in one frame and Klip Legend 17g uncoated in another. 56lbs for the mains.

I use Pacific Classic/CoFocus at 53/48 and the response I have is very similar to your description with Outlast. I am curious and would like to try Outlast. Would you say the gut/CoFocus has more spin than gut/Outlast, or the other way around?

I keep one frame with pacific/co-focus, for me I find that setup is better for flatter hitting, particularly when fresh. It feels firmer to me at the same tensuon. I also notice three dustict stages the strings go through: fresh, when it feels crisp and plush; dying, when to me it's an out of control springboard and I hate it; and dead, when it has settled in to a softer, spinnier feel that lasts until the main breaks.

Outlast for me has more of the characteristics of the final stage of the msv. But it is there when fresh and stays that way until the mains break. So for me it feels spinnier.

I string Outlast as a softer alternative. SPPP is also soft, but i felt it lose tension a bit fast. I have never string Outlast with Gut but am interested in trying it. I thought that it might not mesh well wit gut given it was soft, but looking to try it out. Does the gut break first or the Outlast?

I never have broken a poly cross, the gut mains will go first. I've only recently started keeping accurate track of how many hours I've played on a string job. On the last wilson NG/ outlast set up, the gut broke at about 29-30 hrs. I start putting string savers in as needed, usually after about the 10 hr mark.

Huh? SPPP has the best tension maintenance of any poly I've ever tried.
