Solinco Polyester Discussion

Does anyone here play their line of polyesters? How would you market their polyesters to people, Tour Bite, Outlast, Revolution, Barb Wire, TB Diamond Rough, TB Soft in terms of which strings fits which game style?

I for one did not like TB Soft at all, thought it was way too soft for a polyester. Tour Bite on the other hand was too wire like and doesn't have any comfort really at all. TB Diamond Rough wasn't crisp enough and I did not really find the feel to be what I'm looking for. It's a very unique one as some people have mentioned in their reviews of the string.

Leaves me with Outlast, Barb Wire, and Revolution. From what I know, Outlast is not shaped so that's interesting. I heard it is also the softest out of the 3? I prefer shaped polyesters so that leaves me with Revolution and Barb Wire. I have read reviews that have stated that BW is very low powered, even lower than TB, which is going to be way too control-oriented and not enough liveliness for me.

Has anyone tried the lesser known Solinco poly's and would like to talk about their string of choice?

I suspect, string the same racket, TB16 needs at least 15 lbs lower tension than DiamondRough.
My racket's with TB16 are strung at 35, 38, and 40 lbs.

The Prototype Solinco string is a nice offering, I prefer it over the Tour Bite because it has a tiny bit more power, although still not lively by any means. It's crisp, but a little dead feeling. Control and spin come at ease.

Try Tier 1. Fire wire 16g. And string in the mid 50s because it's powerful. This string is really nice and comfortable and yet is triangular.

Ditto. Used to play with SP Tornado, MSV, Yonex TOS and PTP, and Tour Bite 17, 18, and 19. Tier One FireWire is a solid balanced choice.

I have played TB Soft, TB Diamond Rough, and Outlast. I am currently using the Diamond Rough 16L at 52/49. It is reasonably comfortable, good pocketing and plenty of spin. I use the Outlast as a cross occasionally. Really like Solinco poly strings.

I've used almost all of their strings.

  1. Outlast 16: Good control, incredibly low powered, stiff, good spin, decent launch angle
  2. Outlast 17: better spin, high launch angle
  3. TB 16: stiff, great control, good spin, good launch angle
  4. TB 17: High launch angle, extra spin makes up for it
  5. TB Diamond Rough: Soft, powerful, spin is just meh. super high launch angle, poor directional control
  6. TB Soft line: all of these strings have poor directional control, high launch angles, mediocre spin. but, not too stiff. quite powerful for a poly
  7. Revolution: fantastic string. great launch angle, great control, good spin.
  8. Prototype strings: have tried lots of them, would rather not comment since they are not available to the general public

As to stiffness, data is taken from TWU:
Most stiff from high to low:
  1. Revolution, 247
  2. Barb Wire, 244
  3. Outlast, 236
  4. TB, 232
  5. TB DR, 209
  6. TB Soft, 207

Of their commercial offerings, TB 16L is my favorite, followed closely by Revolution 16L

Outlast is my favorite cross with natural gut since it is one of the slickest, most lowest coefficient of friction strings on the market.

My two favorite strings to use in a poly/syn gut hybrid are: Outlast and TB DR. Outlast if you're new to hybrids and aren't sure what you want. TB DR if you want a little more power and more comfort. Both slide well over the crosses well.

TB Soft is a good string if you absolutely must use poly, but have arm issues. I can think of quite a few syn guts that are just as stiff, if not stiffer, so it's a good choice. However, you sacrifice control.

Hope that helps!

I've played TB(1.10-1.25), TBS(1.20-1.25), BarbWire 1.20 and Revolution(1.20-1.25). Just got in some Revolution 1.15. While I haven't played the 1.15 yet, feedback has been positive from my doubles partner. My personal favorite is the 1.20 revolution, so far.
Also, the Multi-filament Vanquish is a good option for hybrids.

I'm just hoping their price point doesn't increase.
