Solinco String short by few feet often?

Particularly with Hyper G Soft I notice packs are a few feet short and it has burned me more than once. Has anyone measured a reel of regular hyper G?

What racquet & tension? And are you doing 1-piece or 2?

Years ago I had issues with a full bed of ALU in an 18x20 frame. Doing it 2-piece, I found the only way to make it work was to begin stringing as 1-piece, then cut the proper amount to tie off on the long side, giving me an extra foot for the crosses.

Two piece 18x20 blade on a drop weight low tension. Set was over 2 feet short had to work some magic

If you cut the strings out of the pack, you’re hurting yourself. I can do 18x20 Blades 98 using 36.5’ from a reel. By cutting for mains and crosses, you actually need more string to reach the gripper since you have 4 knots to pull.

I prestring mains ensuring the last main can teach the gripper. You can be short as much as 4-6” if you have a stretchy string. Mount the racquet and tension all the mains. The last LS main should be cut after knot. Use Starting knot and finish crosses. I generally waste about 2-2.5’.

FWIW, i have seen packs marked as 12 meters vs 12.2 meters. They’re correctly marked. If you suspect short, bring it to attention of seller.

You need to return the packs cuz the package says 12.2 m. The company may not be aware they are doing something very illegal; ala saying one thing and shortchanging the amount when the customer receives it

I like their strings but makes me wonder if their reels are coming short as well.

New pack of Hyper G, 38 feet. Last pack of Hyper G soft 37.X feet

I currently have two packs of Hyper-G Soft that I purchased from Tennis Warehouse within the last year. I opened up one of them and with the package stating 12.2 meters or 40 feet, it was 39' 1" long. I don't think I've ever had a pack that was less than 39 feet, though I also don't think I've measured every pack either.

I had reels of strings from Prince, Wilson, Gosen, Luxilon, Kirshbaum, Signum Pro, Pros Pro where I tracked string used by reel. When I got to the point of tracking saying that I did not have enough string for another complete string job, I measured the remaining string. Every one of those reels had more than what was stated on the reel label, e.g. 665-670’. This is a personal observation based on reels under my control either my purchase or clients’ purchase.

I get the left overs for weed eater and for crosses.

edit: Liking string has no basis for accepting the fact that the package is short. Send the packs back and buy a reel. Track string usage and if it also comes out short, complain to the seller and to the company selling it. In the US, it is illegal to shortchange volume, length etc. So? Are you sending the packs back or eating the shortage yourself?

I have not had this problem with the individual packs I've purchased and I use a 100 sq in. Did you reach out to the seller or solinco? I also use(d) hg soft reels and never felt I was cut short as I went through about 14 racquets with one reel, but I'm also not methodical or picky about the stringing so some small amounts are usually wasted in the process.

Solinco finally got back to me after I messaged them a few different ways. They told me this issue has been resolved in the past and were questioning the measurement.. They're offering me some free sets if I buy a reel which doesn't really help me regain confidence in them or necessarily resolve my issue if I had no interest in buying more..

It's not that big of a deal but now I'm wondering if I should just go to a different brand

A yardstick is 3’. So 13 yardsticks plus 1 foot is 40’. I measure using a piece of 1x4 which is 3’ long. Marked at 1 and 2’. Easy to measure 36’; just wind the string around the board 6 times.

If Solinco blames you for mis measurement, measure again 2-3 times. See who is wrong. What you could do is try to determine when the packs were produced. You could have gotten old stock from before Solinco’s claimed fix. However, whether you think you should continue with their strings is ultimately up to you.

New pack Hyper G soft 17, 38 feet 3 inches...... at least it's enough...

3/4 Hyper G packs short, only standard 17 was as it should be. Definitely don't think this issue has been resolved..
