Somdev Dewarman has NO chance in the pros, Excellent analysis

Dewarman is 26 on the 13 of Feb. Enough said.

Re income, a former WTA top 120 Canadian player recently gave up her pro career at only 23, when she realized the state of her finances. OK, she had also been injured for some time, but I'd say good thinking. There's not much money left without serious sponsorships, if you're just around #100.

To be fair to him he's turned pro just a couple of years back. From 1000 to 80 is not bad, considering that he does not really have great weapons (other than lateral movement). I see him around the 50 mark, to get consistently better he needs to add more weapons to his game.

Funny to see this thread going again.

I saw some of Somdev's semi-final match a couple weeks ago. Noticed he is wearing Lacoste now so not a bad gear supplier (along with Babolat). That said he is a big deal in India. I went to grad school with a couple guys from India and they knew who Somdev was and how he was doing in the pros. The fact that India has been in the world group in Davis Cup the past two years is huge.

As for the money aspect, read up on Paul Goldstein. The guy made a great career for himself playing primarily on the challenger circuit. Similar type player to Somdev.

Yah right, out of 110 thousand he will spend 100 thousand in expenses!?

Unless the sponsor pays for the stringing, that's a huge expense. Can be thousands of dollars per tournament ($40 per racket, 3 to 6 rackets per match).

They're flying to different countries several times per month, living in Hotel rooms hundreds of days per year.

$110k a year is slumming it. Many players in the top 100 rely on support from their home countries to make up the difference. Tennis pros don't start making money until they land good coaching or administration jobs.
