Some footage of me hitting

pvaudio

Legend
Some people requested to see what I hit like, so without further ado, here's my playing style. Not looking for any tips, people have just been asking how I hit, so here are four videos for your..."pleasure" :)

Best video i have ever saw. Great selection of music, nice of you to give us music, and keep the tennis noise. The transition were really nice as well.

LOLOL at the shoes, that sucks dude. Nice serve!
GAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!! That pissed me off so much haha, the silent bits around that part were me cursing up a storm and having to edit it out lol. The first time I wore them was serving the day before (the other video), and then on a far shot, the front sole comes unglued! At least Tennis Warehouse has the best return service of any store, tennis regardless. :)

The serves look like they have a fair bit of pace on them, looking good.

Do you have any from a side/behind angle to show the pace/spin you have on your shots?

Watching a shooter without seeing a target is useless. Bob's tip of the day: hit the gym asap and work super-hard on your coordination and core strength. Not just because of tennis but because you need it.

I do not, no. I'd have to do that inside as you can see from where I am, the fence is immediately behind me. The court depth is greater indoors, so I'd be able to place a cart to shoot from like I do with my serves.

You do know that if you read, you would have seen that I don't require snide advice. People just wanted to see what PV hits like, so here's what I've got. Take it or leave it. So thank you, but please carry on. :)

I'm sorry, I did not mean to be that rude. I already have a coach, am already on a fitness program, and am already squared away for my goals. That's why I said I'm not looking for any tips. Did not mean to be so caustic :)

Here are my tips:

1. Don't start a video thread and expect people not to give tips even when you ask them not to!

2. See item 1

Your serve looks much better now than in the videos you posted last year. Right on! If only I had your athletic tennis build instead of being built like a fire hydrant. Cool vids, thanks for posting.

We men have this compulsion to give advice, regardless of whether we were asked for them. There comes a point when we have to learn to shut up.

But I'm a man also. PV, keep your back leg down on your groundstrokes. You keep lifting them up on both your backhand and forehand.

minor issue on your FH, major issues on BH, topspin and slice.

but let me shut up, since you are not asking for tips :)

Why are you using "PV" instead of "I"?

Nobody's perfect, and I'm far from it. I'm simply a work in progress, and always will be. I like that :)

From the point of view of the people who asked, they would have said, "PV," I assume.
Yep, just used 3rd person because people in my playtest thread were wondering if my reviews were relevant to most people, so I decided to show how I hit the ball.

just watched serves-looks alright. but there is a huge hitch, and also looks like you are more muscling than flowing the serve. form is good though. no tips just my observations:P

My serve will always be a work in progress. I tore my shoulder years ago, so I have a very limited ROM (note the insignificant backscratch) and need to warm up my arm a lot before I can serve full on. As long as it wins me points, I'm done fooling with it. Again, I'm going to be an engineer, not a tennis player. But thank you regardless for the observation. :)

ouch. thats real good for a torn shoulder. i dont think i could still swing like that

Yeah, I used to be very overweight, so I needed that big serve and a huge kicker as a junior just to be able to not get bageled. Unfortunately, the amount of external rotation I was using on my kicker eventually developed into tendinitis. Healed up, kept on doing it, tendinitis again. Healed up, then finally, the summer before my senior year of HS tennis, I was training my ass off and it got to the point where it hurt for more than just serving. Physical therapy did absolutely nothing whatsoever, so 4 doctors and 2 MRIs said tendinitis, the 5th doc and 3rd MRI saw the tear.

It's also why I use a significant amount of topspin on the majority of my serves. It's down to the mechanics of my balltoss. Note that I purposely float it left so that I can rotate through the shot as normal, but my swingpath is up and to the left, not up and ahead. If you mimic that yourself, you'll see that your upper arm stays closer to your head. If I pull it away, like if I wanted to serve a flat bomb, then there is a lot more external rotation and a lot more "OH SH**, AHHH!!!" and shoulder clutching :D

Still, I don't make excuses for anything. I want to play this sport for my entire life, and I'll do whatever I can to not only be competitive, but more importantly, keep my body in good condition. :)

Looks like you guys were having fun.
Almost as many "oooooohs!" as an ATP match with Bud Collins doing commentary.

You know there's that saying "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all" but I just have to say ... I think you could improve tremendously if you did less showboating and more concentrating on the court.

I assume from your postings that you're serious about tennis, but for a 3.5 player who I assume wants to improve you sure talk a lot of crap during points when you should be concentrating. No offense ... just trying to help.

Thanks for posting PV. What kind of camera did u use?
Also, you can't post a video and then say "no tips"!!!
That's not very fair :)

What's your rating? If I would guess, I would say a solid 4.0.
Your backhand is much smoother than your forehand. You kind
of "jerk" and "whip" your forhand on the upstroke. Try and smooth
it out some and you'll be more consistent. You also appear to hit the
ball to close to your body and look "jammed" sometimes due to this.

Also, your footwork gets a little lazy sometimes (like us all) and you
stop split stepping at times.

When serving you look like a collage player.

Ground game looks like 3.5

If you can get the serve, with some work the ground game will follow.

I just saw the serve, and it looks great. more fluidity would make it even more efficient. I say, try tossing lower so you have no time to stop at the trophy position.

just my opinion

I just realised I might have made a fool of myself on another forum. A guy posted his video and said feel free to comment. He didn't say no tips wanted. After about a page, it was all "nice", "looks like Federer", "you've improved" when the guy obviously needs to fix some areas. Since no one wanted to "help", the busybody in me couldn't resist giving some tips but the way he replied gave me the feeling he was like "thanks but I know what I need to fix". This thread made me realise some people actually just want to share some videos and not looking for tips.

Funny thing about this video is the music selection annoyed me a bit. I hate how everyone who posts videos tries to make it seem all epic. It's like some dude feeding their cat and we get the song for Darth Vader..

OK, here's my tip for your groundies even though you don't want it.

Think smooooth...
That's the goal for this summer: the KISS approach, except it's simple and smooth instead of simple, stupid. :)
Great vids. Thanks for sharing.
No problem!
How tall are you Pvaudio ?

Looks like 6' 4-5" at least to me.

Nice video - you're brave to post it :)
LOL I'm 5'10.5, 5'11 with shoes on. Nowhere near that tall!

Dude, relax. I'm out there with a good friend of mine, just hitting around. During matches, i say absolutely nothing whatsoever. And I mean, nothing. I'm completely silent even if I get breadsticked in both sets. Why? Because I know going into the match that the players I'm up against is better than me, so instead of getting mad at missing shots, I just focus on learning from him. When I'm with a hitting partner who happens to be quite good himself, I don't care. As onehandbh said, I'm there to have fun and just get things engrained. That's just my personality, and I can't help it. I don't take the sport overtly serious because there's no reason to. I don't have a scholarship, I'm not playing on the team, I won't be a pro, and I sure as heck won't be making money from my hobby. It's just fun, and no, actually, I didn't talk any crap whatsoever. The winner I did hit that I commented on in the first video, you'll note that I said: "Sorry, that was a waste of your feed."

No problem! Camera is a Panasonic HDC-SD60. And yep, 4.0 rating, aspiring to 4.5. Got some stroke flaws to work out this summer to make them more consistent (fluidity and simplicity is key, and we're not there yet!!), but it's not that serious to me. I'm out there to get better, and enjoy myself. That's it! And yeah, I tend to rush the FH, not start low enough on the BH, and get off the ground far too much. Footwork is usually my best attribute (used to be a boxer), but just like everyone else, I get sluggish from time to time. :)

That's the plan, thanks!

As I said a few posts ago, I'm done fooling with my serve. I tore my rotator cuff 5 years ago, and now I have a frozen shoulder. Lots of the flaws are actually related to me knowing that if I "improve" in that area, I end up moving through a ROM that I no longer have. So yeah, I know it's not perfect in the slightest, but it's always been my best stroke and continues to be. I just practice now so that I get more consistent and accurate and keep the joint nice and loose.

I just realised I might have made a fool of myself on another forum. A guy posted his video and said feel free to comment. He didn't say no tips wanted. No worries, my friend, no worries. :)

I'm sorry I disappointed you with the background music. Thought it would lighten up some of the monotony. If not, then to each his own.

The reason why I said that I'm not looking for tips is that I already have a coach and am aware of what I need to work on to improve. I know what flaws are there, it's just a matter of fixing them one at a time (or few at a time if they're related). Wasn't intended to alienate people from giving their advice. :)
