Some gems from Fognini's new book

It looks like it could be an interesting read.

The only thing i didn't like is the comment about Toni Nadal. This is a very bad discussion to add to the book imo.

i know its not strictly tennis related, but it would be interesting to hear more about how he ended up marrying Flavia Pennetta.

There would have been a massive, massive amount of people interested in Flavia Pennetta before she married Fognini for sure.

No they're not. Xisca and Flavia barely know each other and Rafa/Fog are not friends at all. There's no source for this anywhere and I follow news on Fabster with rampant zeal.
Not true. Rafa and Flavia have been close friends for many years since Flavia and CarlosMoya were girlfriend/boyfriend. https://www.pinterest.ca/pin/4292562123209477/

Rafa was one of the first people she talked to after winning the US Open when Rafa called her from Spain. https://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/24/sports/tennis/flavia-pennetta-is-calling-her-shots-to-the-end-wta-finals.html?_r=0&fbclid=IwAR01utmclLtdJxNQIskKn3xLfHTcJdwxr5-YWWssZML-Ka3WV7CdcFkDsWM
There were also two keepsake phone calls. The first was from Rafael Nadal the night of her victory.
“It was 5 a.m. in Spain,” she said. “I know Rafa since he was a kid. I would practice in Majorca when he was not Rafa Nadal, he was just Rafa. We are friends.”
They also get together whenever Rafa goes to Italy so he can see their kids and how much they've grown. Fabio's also talked in other interviews about how much Rafa has helped him settle down on court and quit throwing so many temper tantrums. He has said his father and Rafa have been the biggest help for him that way.

Sorry, guess your zeal isn't rampant enough because I could find a lot more quotes about Rafa and Fabio if I wanted to be bothered. I think Rafa's tired of Fabio's hotheaded ways and has cooled their friendship but the fact can't be denied that they were pretty close for many years.

Wow....completely forgot about the Carlos Moya link.

I have to say it doesn't seem that interesting. But not many tennis books are. My favourite is The Player by Becker.

"Novak Djokovic is tough," Fognini said. "When you face him he crushes you. His rhythm is so strong that you can’t think. Djokovic is called Plastic Man by many for his ability to bend like he was made out of rubber. He has victory in his eyes and the world number one determination.”

“The fact that Novak Djokovic is not only a player but also a friend makes everything more difficult. My best matches with him are the ones we were side by side in doubles,"
Fognini added.

Would be weird too as Moya had a bad breakup with Flavia. But there are pics of young rafa with flavia in bed but looked like troll pics.

How many of you guys read tennis books? I consider myself very interested in tennis but it sees most of these books are dumb. Watching these guys playing for hours is enough for me.

Enough about the big three. I’m here for the Seppi analysis. I would kill for a clip of Seppi and Fognini having a conversation. I imagaine Seppi straight talking while Fognini is smiling uncomfortably.

It’s gotta be a well written book for me. Agassi’s book was atypically well written for a tennis book. That’s why people are so enamored with the David Foster Wallace stuff. He even did a review to point out how Tracy’s Austin’s book could have been so much better. She had an interesting story to tell but just couldn’t express herself well enough. Tennis books need to be written by better writers.

""Italy falls quickly in love with you and quickly betrays you. "

You could say that about so many countries, cultures, communities, and basically the world in general in the era of the internet, social media, anonymous commenting, etc. People love to build up and tear down.

“Murray and I never got along. We are two hotheads and we lose our cool pretty quickly. When we are on court, we despise each other…Andy Murray was arrogant since young age. A guy all lobs and dropshots, tricky shots designed to tmock you.”

I love how people look at his comments outwards and overlook who they are coming from. I'm sure he feels that way about Murray and Nadal but who is he to talk? He was one of the most whiney brats in the tour before Kyrgios arrived and both of them are much more liked and respected on tour by others than by him. They are not the problem, he is.

I don’t think anyone is overlooking the source. It’s pretty rare for anyone to say anything risky about anyone, so it’s nice when anyone is giving anything other than boring cliches, even when the source is suspect. Maybe it’s gossip, but it is nice to know what players think about each other. It’s always either Kyrgios talking or Djokovic’s parents or someone’s former coach. No one ever wants to risk saying anything to upset anyone, which I understand, but it’s nice to know about some of the frictions behind the curtain.

I've seen him quoted recently that he's good friends with Novak which makes it harder to play him, not sure it's from the book or not.

TBH, I just like that he criticized infallible tennis darlings Nadal and Murray a bit. No one in tennis world ever dares to usually.
Definitely something between Murray and Fognini. Somebody just had to comment on it.,

The fundamental question is, will Murray be as effective as a stud like Fognini was? And he will be, even more so? But until he is rated number one in GQ magazine., it's going to be hard to verify that I think he'll be a more effective stud.
