While Djokovic is the favorite and it is more likely we will get a repeat of the Wimbledon final (and here's hoping a repeat of the winner too!) I am rooting for Ben Shelton to win and of course for Carlos to win so we can have "the battle of the 20 year olds"!!!! This in my view would be the best thing for tennis! A real changing of the guard moment away from the big 3 era and into a new era of dynamic younger players taking over and continuing to bring new fans to tennis! Of course I want Carlos to win regardless of who is in the final - it just would be so much greater for tennis if Shelton were his opponent on Sunday! (I am aware that there are many Djokovic fans on here who want him to win and so this post is more for those of us who would prefer a different outcome this year).
 
As much as I like Shelton, what actual tennis fan would pick him over a repeat of Djokovic vs Alcaraz? The Wimbledon final was a high quality match with great entertainment, who would turn a potential repeat of that and the revenge aspect of it down? Cmon.

We'll get more of Shelton over the next 10 years hopefully, for now let's enjoy Djokovic whilst he's still here.
 
I am more interested in seeing the two best players in the world play again and also see an inter-generational struggle. If they can play like the Cincinnati match, that would be awesome theater.
 
Nothing more pleasurable than Carlitos Alcaraz beating the veteran Serbian player in the final of the 2023 United States Open.
It would be the inevitable beginning of the Alcaraz era.

Battle of the Generations, or Battle of the Twenty-Year Olds

If Shelton is any good, the second is going to be battle of the future.

The problem with that though is that Djokovic did not win fair and square in that match. I am just so sick of Djokovic and how the tennis media fawns all over him. It's gross. They do like Carlos but they are clinging to the past and I don't see it as healthy for the future of tennis.
 
I think most neutrals i have spoken to and indeed even a couple of my mates who are Rafa and Roger fans want to watch Carlos v Novak (they are rooting for Carlos though lol).

I honestly think Carlos would destroy Ben if he got to final as he would be overwhelmed from shock win over Novak and would get trounced, we have see that story play out so many times over the years.

I want the best 2 in world slugging it out and even if somehow Med beat Carlos you would still have a great final compared to Carlos routing Shelton

Hell no. Give me Djokoraz Part 3 or Part 5 if you include Madrid and Cincinnati, every single match was a classic only stopped by stupid cramps. Inject that **** right into my veins.
 
honestly i'm down for either scenario. gotta figure alcaraz/novak would have some crazy points...but at the same time, a 20yo american gunning for the USO after beating novak...with a highlight reel game even non-tennis fans can appreciate...that would be a pretty hot ticket as well.

You think after the magic Djokovic and Alcaraz produced in the matches leading into this USO, that the USO and its fans don't want a piece of that action while its still hot? LOL
 
If Shelton beats Djokovic then I would prefer him to beat Alcaraz too. A new star will emerge which is good.

No way will USO want to be outdone by Cincinnati, a masters of all places on their own soil. 8-B
 
cmon nobody wants it, with rare exceptions of course, nothing can be better than tiny vs the king once again and it should be obvious by first sec, sheldon lettich vs tiny wont be so great and exciting, it could be a bit better than last year final, but still its way far from wut we can have with that option vast majority awaits8-B

You are not a tennis fan, so please, don't speak for others. Had it been against Nadal, you would be the biggest Shelton fan.

Well I think that the odds are highly in favour of a No1 and No 2 meeting again. They both have their sights set on it.
